Aussie Couple Mistake AU$1 Million Lotto Win for AU$1K

The lucky couple was one out of a total of five division one winners from Saturday Gold Lotto's 4485 draw

A lucky couple from Upper Coomera, Queensland, Australia, thought they did well after winning AU$1,000 ($677) from Saturday Gold Lotto. To their shock and pleasant surprise, the win wasn’t AU$1,000 ($677) but was AU$1 million ($677,500) instead.

The couple was among the list of five winners who guessed correctly the winning numbers from Saturday Gold Lotto’s 4485 draw over the weekend. To secure the division one prize, the couple guessed correctly the winning numbers drawn on Saturday 1, 2, 18, 21, 24, 36 and supplementary numbers 14 and 27.

As a result, the couple secured an AU$1,008,162.52 ($683,000) division one prize. The win was one out of two for Queensland. On the other hand, Saturday’s draw saw one winning entry from New South Wales, Western Australia and Victora.

The couple’s winning ticket was purchased from News Extra Coomera, Shop B1, Coomera Square, 2 City Centre Drive in Upper Coomera, as confirmed by The Lott. The same retail outlet has sold five division one winning tickets and two top prize-winning scratch-its tickets in the last 10 years.

Besides the division one win, a significant number of players won a tier-two prize by guessing five main numbers and one supplementary number. A total of 62 players made such correct predictions with each taking home AU$10,003.45 ($6,778).

The Couple Feels Very Blessed, Says the Win Came at the Perfect Time

When asked what they plan to do with the AU$1 million ($677,500) win, the lucky couple said that they want to do home improvements. “We’re retired and there’s a lot of work we’d love to do on our home – especially after the Christmas Day storms that swept through here,” said the lucky woman from Upper Coomera. The winner acknowledged that the win came at the perfect time, adding that she and her partner are feeling “very blessed.”

Speaking about the excitement of realizing that they had just one million dollars, the woman said that she still cannot believe it. She spoke about the morning when she checked her ticket for Saturday Gold Lotto. The Gold Coast woman said she thought they won AU$1,000 ($677) and went to her husband.

Acknowledging that usually, the couple used to win AU$15 ($10), an AU$1,008 ($683) prize sounded quite good. The lucky lottery player gave the ticket to her husband, asking him to check it on the computer. This is when the man said that they didn’t win AU$1,008 ($683). The woman argued that that wasn’t true. To her shock and surprise, her husband responded that they in fact won AU$1 million ($677,500).
