South Carolina Woman Wins $300K Days After Losing Her Job
Games of chance always carry certain risks but sometimes, they can turn a person’s life around
A very lucky Lowcountry woman from South Carolina has won $300,000 from the South Carolina Education Lottery. What makes her win so special, however, is the fact that it came a few days after the winner had lost her job.
The woman told lottery officials that she had bought only a single lottery ticket. Describing herself as someone who has never won anything before, she couldn’t believe her luck. In an interview with the South Carolina Education Lottery, she said:
I’m still in shock and extremely grateful. I’ve never won anything before.

The winning ticket was sold at The Old Pantry at 1190 Ribaut Rd. in Beaufort, the South Carolina Education Lottery said in its official release. The lottery elaborated that the woman won her amazing prize through a $10 Gold Rush scratch-off ticket.
The $300,000 she won, for reference, is the top prize in the game. The Old Pantry, meanwhile, will receive $3,000 for selling the winning ticket.
Three More Top Prizes Remain
As mentioned, this win came a few days after the woman lost her job, thus providing her with ample financial stability until she sorts things out. The prize will give the lucky winner a fresh start and the ability to buy herself a new house.
The woman told lottery officials that she couldn’t believe how things worked out.
In the meantime, lottery officials said that three more top prizes of $300,000 remain in the $300,000 Gold Rush game. The odds of winning the top prize, the South Carolina Education Lottery added, stand at approximately 1 in 700,000.
Jackpot Fever Sweeps America
In other news, a Virginia Lottery player just won $500,000 from a scratch-off ticket. The Durham resident bought a Magnificent 7s ticket from a Virginia Lottery retailer and was surprised to win the game’s top prize. Around the same time, two other players in Virginia won prizes of $100,000.
Elsewhere, another woman scored a $24,000 win from the Michigan Lottery’s Roaring 20s. A Maryland Lottery player, on the other hand, scooped up a $1 million prize after deciding to buy a ticket different from the one he initially considered getting.
