Virginia Lottery Player Wins $500K, Two Others Grab $100K Prizes
Two of the winning players described themselves as Virginia Lottery regulars
A woman from North Carolina has won $500,000 from a scratch-off ticket in Virginia. The Durham resident bought a Magnificent 7s ticket from a Virginia Lottery retailer and was surprised to win the game’s top prize.
Conchita Robas bought the ticket at the Food Lion at 2120 South Crater Road in Petersburg after receiving $100 from her roommate. This turned out to be a fateful decision as it would soon make her some $500K richer.
In an interview with the Virginia Lottery, Robas said that she is a regular scratchers player. While she has had some luck previously, she had never won a prize so big before.
“I was crying!” the woman told lottery officials when she redeemed her winning ticket.
As for her plans for the money, Robas said that she plans to save for retirement and buy a new house.
Magnificent 7s, for context, is a game featuring prizes ranging from $20 to $500,000. The prize claimed by Robas was the second top prize. The Lottery reported that two more top prizes remain unclaimed.
Two Players Claim $100K Prizes
In the meantime, the Virginia Lottery handed $100,000 prizes to two other players. The first of them, Ramika McGill, bought two Ca$h Corners Crossword tickets from M&T Market, located at 2711 Kecoughtan Road in Hampton.
When she got home, McGill scratched the first ticket, which won nothing. Despite the slight discouragement, the woman scratched the second one and realized she just won $100,000.
The woman went to the lottery headquarters to claim her prize and told officials that she had barely slept because of the excitement. She added that she plans to use her winnings to buy a car and give to her children.
In the meantime, Larry Munden Sr bought a Big Money Bingo scratcher at the Food Lion at 1245 Cedar Road in Chesapeake, also winning $100,000. The ticket was bought for the man’s wedding anniversary, which is why he considered it to be a sign from his late wife.
Munden said that he has been playing Virginia Lottery games since the start. He and his wife would sit together in the garage and play scratchers for fun, he explained. The Chesapeake told lottery officials that he even carried the ticket out to the cemetery to show it to his wife.
Munden further added that he will give half of his winnings to his daughter and son-in-law. Now retired, the man plans to continue playing bingo in honor of his late wife.
More US Players Win Huge Jackpots
In other jackpot-related news, a Palms Casino Resort visitor in Las Vegas just scooped up a whopping $2.1 million jackpot after placing a $3 bet. The spectacular achievement was celebrated by the resort, which congratulated the player on their win.
Elsewhere, a Maryland man won $1 million from a $20 Extreme Green Ticket. He had initially thought of buying a $30 ticket but went with the cheaper option because he thought his wife would otherwise be mad at him.
