A North Carolina woman has flipped a $30 scratcher into a $100,000 payout by playing the Cash Payday game.

The woman, who purchased the ticket from the Trinity Park Family Fare on West Main Street in Durham, has already stepped forward to claim her reward.

North Carolina Sees Numerous Lottery Winners 

The winner, whose name is Ruth O’Neal Allen of Cary, appeared at the North Carolina Lottery in person to scoop the prize on Thursday, and she chose to claim the lump sum straight-up, taking home $72,018. 

The lottery, which publicized the win, did not really reveal any more information about the woman or share any of her thoughts about the win. 

The lottery did, however, share that education programs in Wake County received $64.3 million in support from lottery funds in 2025 alone, with the lottery playing a crucial role in supporting such programs. 

North Carolina has frequently been the site of major lottery wins that have turned people’s lives around. For example, in March, a father who was visiting his daughter in the state scooped a lottery ticket that resulted in a $400,000 jackpot.
In the same month, a mother in the state won a $1 digital instant lottery ticket, which fetched her a $707,600 jackpot.
