Evolution Takes Firm Stance against Ongoing Protests in Georgia
The company holds a significant presence in the country, but protests have caused it to suspend its operations temporarily until it can address worker concerns
Leading gaming and entertainment company Evolution, which employs over 8,000 people in Georgia, has found itself at the center of a labor dispute. Allegations of poor working conditions, harassment by management, and insufficient pay have prompted a series of strikes by the company’s employees, who demand marked improvements before they return to work.
The Company Denied Responsibility
Responding to the ongoing strikes, Evolution released an official statement on its Facebook page. The company reaffirmed its commitment to the Georgian market, highlighting its career opportunities. However, the company stopped short of acknowledging any significant issues with its operations despite its employees striking in substantial numbers and blocking the entrances to the building.
Evolution was adamant that its actions aimed to safeguard the environment of mutual trust and respect fostered by the company, ensuring that its employees adhered to such common values. Evolution condemned the ongoing strikes as unacceptable behavior and threatened to reduce its presence in the country via significant layoffs.
Whenever encountering unacceptable behavior in Evolution, on any level, we act stringently, fairly, and in accordance with applicable laws in Georgia.
Evolution statement
The statement garnered hundreds of comments, predominantly supporting the striking employees. Workers have continued to demand better pay and improved working conditions through Evo-Union, a trade union established by staff members. However, Evolution and the union have not started official talks, meaning the strikes will likely continue for the foreseeable future.
Protestors Remain Confident in Their Demands
The ongoing labor action reportedly encompasses over 2,000 workers. Evo-Union argued that Evolution must first negotiate with the union representing the employees before any mass workforce reduction attempts. This development would force the company to hear the workers’ demands, which is the union’s primary goal.
Evo-Union underlined the significant contribution of Evolution Georgia to the firm’s international operations, noting that Evolution would not abandon such a lucrative market. According to the union, the company’s threats to scale down its workforce were empty posturing, and it would not risk the hit to its revenue and the erosion of its regional presence.
Evolution workers remain united against what they describe as “absurd lies and intimidation.” The strike is now entering its fourth week as the company faces increasing pressure to respond to rising tensions. What happens next will likely depend on the company’s following steps and will set the tone for Evolution’s future regional operations.
