WPT Taps Into Sweepstakes World with New ClubWPT Gold

The World Poker Tour is getting ready to write history in December when its new sweepstakes-oriented platform ClubWPT Gold will power a $5M freeroll, in preparation for the full launch in early 2025

The 2024 World Poker Tour (WPT) World Championship in December will set the ground for a twist that the iconic social poker site has announced with bells and whistles.

Namely, WPT has expressed its plans to direct its attention to the sweepstakes side of online poker with the launch of the much-anticipated ClubWPT Gold, a new platform that will be available for play at the start of 2025.

Before that, the new site will be the title sponsor of a “record-setting, first-of-its-kind $5,000,000 freeroll in support of the launch of the latest sweepstakes poker offering.”

The new online poker product that has been described as “operating on a sweepstakes-based platform, similar to ClubWPT, legally serving most of the US” will help WPT hit the refresh button and get in line with the social gaming trend that offers something that resembles real-money play while complying with sweepstakes law

To mark the launch, WPT, which launched the social poker site featuring a prize component ClubWPT in 2008, has decided to make its promotional presence well felt with an iconic freeroll that will go into the history books.

Approximately 2,000 players are expected to visit Las Vegas to attend the biggest live freeroll event, which is organized for a chance to leave home with a $1,000,000 prize in the first place.

Roughly a quarter of all field participants will grab part of the $5 million announced, with everyone making the money and busting given a second-chance drawing featuring 100 free entries into the $10,400 WPT World Championship event.

The latter will consist of three starting flights with a start date set for December 14.

Once the counter for players left reaches 297, the freeroll will also turn into a Mystery Bounty with $720,000 ready to be won, including two $100,000 bounties as top prizes.

All nine final table players will earn at least $20,000 and have their own pool of Mystery Bounties with a $200,000 top prize and one envelope worth $0.

How to Get Golden Passports for the “Event of the Year”

US and Canadian players who live in states and provinces where the new platform is available can win a chance to join the iconic freeroll by first registering and signing up for a free account.

In just a few seconds, they will be eligible to win a Golden Passport by filling in any ambassador promo code from Brad Owen or Ethan ‘Rampage’ Yau into the dedicated promo code field and entering “ambassador or influencer-specific drawings and contests.”

Players can win one Golden Passport per person and enjoy a “swag bag of high-end merch” and access to the exclusive Gold Lounge upon arrival at the premier location.

WPT will also enable players who had not previously signed up to use an activation booth on site to instantly create an account, get their merch, and be eligible for last-chance Golden Passports.

Day 1 of the grand event that will take place between December 13-15 at Wynn Las Vegas has been set for December 13, with Day 2 the following day and the Final Table event scheduled for December 15.

The exact start times have yet to be disclosed.

ClubWPT Gold will not require a subscription and will allow players to engage in online action for both cash and prizes.

Upon signup, they will get the chance to purchase Gold Coins, which will be the currency used for playing money games on the platform.

Players will also receive an equal amount of Sweeps Coins, which represent the sweepstakes currency available for use in both Sweeps cash games and tournaments for cash and prizes.

The original ClubWPT site will stay active, with a monthly fee required in exchange for access to poker tournaments, sit & gos, and ring games.

In June, WPT was expected to host another historical event, the WPT Macau festival in partnership with Allied Gaming & Entertainment and Wynn Macau, which would have marked an important milestone for the poker community worldwide.

However, at the end of May, WPT announced the event would not be moving forward, without offering an exact reason for the sudden change of heart.
