Professional Poker Player Takes Legal Action Against ACR Poker
The lawsuit filed by Scott Ball alleged that ACR Poker breached a contract with his talent agency and failed to settle outstanding payments
A recognizable poker player, who helped promote ACR Poker, recently turned to court to settle a financial dispute, seeking millions in restitution.
Legal Claim Seeks Millions in Restitution
That is the case of Scott Ball, a famous poker pro who recently filed a lawsuit against ACR Poker, formerly known as Americas Cardroom. The poker player named defendant ACR Poker’s boss, Phil Nagy, in the legal claim that was filed with the San Diego Superior Court before Christmas. International Processing Services as well as Foozle Ventures were also named defendants in the legal claim.
In his lawsuit, the plaintiff claims that while his talent agency, End Game Talent, helped promote ACR Poker, it never received the necessary payments for that service. Ball’s lawsuit seeks damages of “at least $30 million, restitution for unjust enrichment, legal fees, and damages for defamation and trade libel,” as reported late last month by PokerNews.
Previously, ACR Poker’s boss denied the allegations. The topic was up for discussion back in August when Nagy participated in a podcast episode on OnlyFriends. However, the recent lawsuit addressed some of the statements made by Nagy, claiming they were defamatory. “Defendant published false and defamatory statements about Plaintiffs, including but not limited to public statements attributing payment failures to Plaintiffs’ alleged failure to ‘follow through on their commitments’ and claiming Plaintiffs ‘dropped the ball,” the lawsuit filed by Ball claims.
Equally as concerning, the legal claim alleged that the defendants made public statements with “actual malice and intent,” targeting Ball’s reputation. Those alleged false statements sought to “deflect blame for their own conduct,” the poker pro’s lawsuit against Nagy and ACR Poker claims.
Alleged Breach of Contract
Notably, the poker pro’s lawsuit alleges that ACR Poker breached its contract with End Game Talent. Per the plaintiff’s claim, End Game Talent hired streamers to promote ACR Poker. While the service was provided, ACR Poker allegedly failed to settle a number of invoices.
Ball’s lawsuit includes nine invoices that were allegedly not settled by ACR Poker. Per the lawsuit, none of the nine invoices with a cost of $3.3 million each issued between June 1, 2023, and April 1, 2024, by End Game Talent were settled. The legal action comes after Nagy reportedly told Ball “sue me.”
The recently filed lawsuit against Nagy and ACR Poker comes amid a legal dispute against Ball over a similar matter. Previously, the poker pro was named defendant in a lawsuit filed by Loaded LLC due to failure to settle payments. However, Ball claimed that he was unable to settle those payments since ACR Poker failed to settle the invoices issued by End Game Talent.
Ball and ACR Poker, which was formerly Americas Cardroom, have reportedly collaborated successfully for more than seven years. It is yet to be seen how this financial dispute will impact the duo’s professional relationship as a judge will now have to rule on the matter.
