MGM China Hosted Unprecedented Responsible Gambling Course
RG experts underscored the importance of shielding players from harmful gambling and implementing RG policies and local measures to prevent harm
MGM China announced that it has co-hosted the first of its kind responsible gambling training course in Macau. Alongside the Macao Federation of Trade Unions (FAOM) and the Macao Gaming Industry Employees Home Integrated Services Centre, the operator organized the Contributing a Harmonious Community – Responsible Gaming Promotion Ambassador certificate training course.
While MGM acknowledged that gaming employees have been receiving RG training for years, it pointed out that organizations outside the gaming industry have not had the same luxury. As a result, the recent training course sought to teach employees from different industries the essentials of safer gambling.
MGM’s goal was to create a “safety net” in different industries, further expanding the special administrative region’s capabilities to tackle gambling harm.
The course was led by Davis Fong, director of the Institute for the Study of Commercial Gaming of the University of Macau, and Pak Kin Pong, Director of the Macao Gaming Industry Employees Home Integrated Services Centre.
The two experts underscored the importance of shielding players from harmful gambling and implementing RG policies and local measures to prevent harm. Additionally, the course taught people how to encourage people struggling with their gambling to seek help.
Representatives of Eight Unions Attended the Event
Overall, the training course was attended by 150 participants. The attendees were representatives of the 8 major unions under the FAOM, including the following:
- The Macao Construction Industry General Union
- The Macao Manufacturing Industry General Union
- The Commercial Employees’ General Association of Macau
- The Service Sector Employees’ General Association of Macau
- The Macao Federation of Transportation
- The Macau Civil Servants Federation
- The General Association of Macau Clerical Employees
- The Macau Gaming Enterprises Staff’s Association
In addition to training, the organizers had also prepared the Responsible Gaming Promotion Box, which contained books, leaflets and other materials on responsible gambling and gambling disorders.
The course represents the continued collaboration between MGM, FAOM, and the Macao Gaming Industry Employees Home Integrated Services Centre and their joint efforts to make a positive contribution to the region.
MGM China expressed its desire to continue raising awareness of the dangers of excessive gambling and cement Macau as a safe, sustainable and socially responsible destination.
