Massachusetts Gov. Healey Names Jordan Maynard MGC Interim Chair

While Maynard first joined the gambling regulator a few years ago, he will now serve as its interim chair until a permanent replacement is appointed for the role

Recently, the gambling regulator in Massachusetts, the Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC), announced that its chair, Cathy Judd-Stein, plans to step down. In light of this, the regulator initiated a search for a permanent replacement. On Thursday, the MGC confirmed that the Office of Gov. Maura Healey confirmed the appointment of commissioner Jordan Maynard to the role of interim chair.

Currently, the MGC has a total of five full-time commissioners. One of the commissioners is appointed by the governor, one by the attorney general and one by the treasurer. The remaining two commissioners, under the existing rules, are appointed after a joint decision of the three commissioners already in place.

Maynard first joined the MGC back in July 2022. At the time, he was appointed by treasurer, Deborah Goldberg, the then-Gov. Charlie Baker and then-attorney general Maura Healey. Undoubtedly, Maynard was the right for the commissioner role, considering his extensive experience in gaming, especially when it comes to policies and legal. This vital knowledge is also going to help him in the role of interim chair of the MGC while the search for a permanent chair continues.

Maynard Is a Seasoned Expert with Solid Experience

Gov. Healey spoke about Maynard’s extensive experience and track record in the gaming sector. She said that as a commissioner, he collaborated with industry stakeholders while providing strategic guidance for the MGC. “We are grateful for his service as he takes over as interim chair and look forward to working with him more closely,” said Healey, adding that the search for a permanent holder of the role is currently ongoing.

Lieutenant Gov. Kim Driscoll was just as excited about the latest appointment. She thanked Maynard for the demonstrated leadership as commissioner. “His track record speaks for itself and we are grateful for his continued service,” added Driscoll.

I am honored that Governor Healey and Lieutenant Governor Driscoll have entrusted me with this responsibility and thank my fellow commissioners, who are essential to the continued success of the Massachusetts Gaming Commission, for their partnership and support.
