Jay Leno Refutes Gambling Debt Beating as Reason for Recent Injury
In addition to the gambling debt rumors, Maher and Leno discussed America’s political climate and the severe political polarization
Jay Leno, a famous stand-up comedian and late-night host, has commented on rumors that he had been beaten up by mobsters after failing to pay off a gambling debt. The rumors in question were sparked by a recent injury sustained by the celebrity.
Leno’s Recent Injury Sparked Conspiracy Theories
Bill Maher, the host of the Club Random podcast, recently welcomed Leno as a guest. At one point during the episode, Maher decided to address the rumors and see whether there was some credibility to them.
Maher questioned whether Leno’s latest accidents were truly accidents, echoing fans’ concerns about mafia-related extortion. For context, Leno had recently bruised one side of face and had a severe black eye because of a fall he took in Pennsylvania.
Leno, 74, was out for a walk near his hotel in Greensburg, Pennsylvania. Because of the poor weather, he slipped and took a steep fall, hurting his face in the process. However, this didn’t stop the celebrity from appearing on a show several hours after the accident.
As evidenced by the rumors retold by Maher, not everyone bought that.
Leno Dismissed the Outrageous Rumors
Maher noted that conspiracy theorists have been reinvigorated by the fact that this had not been the only injury Leno had sustained recently. In addition to that, he set his face on fire while working on one of his cars and broke several bones in a separate accident.
Leno, however, laughed off the rumors that he had been beaten up by the mafia because of a gambling debt. He found the idea that the mob would drive to Greensburg, Pennsylvania, and wait outside the Hampton Inn on a rainy day just for a chance to throw him off a hill very amusing.
He was also bemused by the fact that conspiracy theorists didn’t account for the fact that mobsters would have just taken one of his expensive vintage cars as a repayment if he truly owed money.
Leno’s net worth, for context, is rumored to be over $450 million, significantly undermining the credibility of the gambling debt rumors.
In addition to the gambling debt rumors, Maher and Leno discussed America’s political climate and the severe political polarization that saw the latter labeled as a traitor by Hollywood liberals because of his support for Donald Trump.
