Hollywood Casino & Hotel Becomes Scene of Fatal Shooting
A man at an Indiana casino-hotel has been shot dead by police officers after the suspect brandished a firearm and refused to comply with instructions to put the weapon down
Three Lawrenceburg Indiana police officer responded to a call for an armed man at the Hollywood Casino & Hotel Lawrenceburg this Saturday morning. The man had chased after a woman at the casino with a knife, threatening her, and going around the casino armed, the Indiana State Police was informed.
Indiana Casino Becomes Scene of Fatal Shooting of Armed Suspect
The man similarly threatened another man with the knife but retreated to the fourth floor when the police officers first arrived. There was no relation between the two men, the one wielding the knife and the man who intervened to calm things down.
Police authorities were called after the rowdy guest of the casino started to spew threats and chase after the unknown woman, and confront the man who had intervened with a knife. The authorities responded immediately and proceeded to confront the suspect on the hotel’s fourth floor, where he produced a firearm.
Police officer repeatedly asked the suspect to put down his weapon and turn himself in according to the official police report, which he refused. The report said that the suspect died at the scene, with police officers opening fire and hitting the suspect at least once, after fired on police officers first.
Indiana State Police Sergeant Stephen Wheeles said that the investigation into the suspect and the shooting was still ongoing. The officers will investigate whether the use of deadly force was justified.
Once the review of the incident is complete, the results will be presented at the Dearborn County Prosecutor’s Office for further examination, Sergeant Wheeles added.
Reasons Unknown, Details Forthcoming
While the investigation is ongoing, the officers involved in the shooting will be placed on administrative leave so there may be no doubt about the fairness of the review’s outcome, he added.
The dead suspect has been turned to the coroner’s who will do an autopsy and determine the cause and manner of death. Presently, the Dearborn County Coroner’s Officer, nor the police department, have shared the identity of the person, but his next of kin will be notified.
In the meantime, the police did not offer any more details as to why the suspect was threatening the woman and chasing her with a knife at the Hollywood Casino & Hotel property on this fatal Saturday morning.
Business at the property was temporarily reorganized, with guests relocated away from the scene of the shooting. Things have now returned to normal, while the shooting scene has been taped off.
