GamStop Helps People Control Their Gambling Behavior

A significant share of gamblers who registered with a self-exclusion scheme completely stopped or reduced gambling since registering with the scheme, an independent evaluation report revealed.

Provided by research consultant company Sonnet, the first independent evaluation of the GamStop self-exclusion scheme for online gamblers found out that 82% of consumers have been positively affected after registering with the service.

Moreover, the survey, based on more than 3,300 users and utilizing profound interviews, revealed that 84% of respondents feel safer from gambling-related harm and in control of their gambling, following registration with the self-exclusion scheme.

Other findings of the independent evaluation are that 77% of the participants were feeling more in control of their personal and household finances after joining the scheme. 72% reported they experienced improvements in terms of anxiety and stress levels and 63% enjoyed improved family relationships. 60% reported they were better focused at work, while 40% said they reduced the consumption of alcohol.

In conclusion, the survey outlined that “Gamstop is reaching a broad range of consumers, well-aligned to the broader population in terms of age, ethnicity and socio-economic status” It recommends the introduction of a broader range of exclusion periods, as well as a targeted engagement strategy to reach people who have never accessed support from gambling specialists.
