FanDuel to Launch in North Carolina Through PGA Tour Partnership

FanDuel is making a play for the North Carolinian sports betting market through a new partnership with PGA Tour

The news was originally confirmed by Sports Business Journal and later picked up by other media outlets. This partnership is not exactly surprising either as FanDuel and PGA Tour have worked together and FanDuel is an official partner of the organization. Previously, the pair has teamed up for live golf betting.

PGA Tour and FanDuel to Take on North Carolina Together

Meanwhile, North Carolina has made it possible for sports betting operators to partner up with local leagues and franchises to enter the regulated market which is due to get underway in 2024. FanDuel will naturally will not be the only company that makes its mark locally, with other confirmed operators such as Caesars, DraftKings, and BetMGM all gearing up for a launch.

Apart from these established companies, there will be up-and-coming new operators, to wit Fanatics and ESPN Bet which are set to pose a major challenge to established gambling giants and have even elicited a fearful response from the likes of BetMGM and DraftKings.

When mobile sports gambling will launch is yet to be determined, as most companies do not expect this to happen on time for March Madness, which is one of the biggest wagering events of the year, and certainly not for the Super Bowl. Mobile wagering should be up and running for the next NFL regular season, however.

The PGA Tour also hosts several events out of North Carolina and its relationship with FanDuel will allow for more fan-focused sports betting experiences as well. Among the events to be expected hosted out of the Tar Heel State are such PGA Tour stops as the Wells Fargo Championship in May.

FanDuel and PGA Tour Make Natural Allies

Speaking to SBJ, FanDuel President Christian Genetski has welcomed the opportunity to see his company team up with the PGA Tour in this new capacity. “We have a great relationship with the Tour, and we have every intention of continuing that. Building off an existing partner made it a pretty easy conversation to get to the parameters of a deal that we were very comfortable with,” Genetski said.

Other companies have also been establishing ties with locally established venues, including ESPN Bet which is a partner with Quail Hollow Club which hosts the Wells Fargo Championship. Flutter recently discussed the company’s plans for the North American market and said that the operator must remain competitive in the face of increased challenges from the likes of DraftKings and ESPN Bet.
