Woman in Disbelief after $1 Million Powerball Win

A lucky Powerball player from Grand Rapids revealed that she was “in disbelief” after uncovering she had won $1 million. On Tuesday, the Michigan Lottery released details regarding the lucky winner, a 66-year-old woman named Lisa Cecil.

Although she won the hefty $1 million from a drawing early in June, the lucky winner recently visited the lottery headquarters to claim her prize. To win $1 million, which is a second-tier prize in the popular lottery game, the woman guessed correctly the winning numbers 19, 30, 31, 61 and 62 from the drawing on June 12.

Cecil purchased the winning ticket from the Family Fare, a retailer on 5241 Northland Drive Northeast in Grand Rapids. When asked what she plans to do with the money, the 66-year-old lucky lottery player said that she anticipates sharing it with her family and paying off a mortgage.

Powerball tickets can be purchased either via retailers across Michigan or via the official website of the Michigan Lottery. Tickets are $2 per play, while for an extra $1, lottery players can activate the popular “Power Play” option that provides a multiplier of up to 10 times for non-jackpot prizes up to a maximum of $2 million.

The drawings of the popular lottery game take place on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. Currently, Powerball is available in 45 states, as well as the US Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico and Washington DC.

Visiting the Michigan Lottery, Cecil recalled the experience of what it’s like to win the lottery. She said that she checks the winning numbers online after each Powerball drawing. The 66-year-old winner explained that right after midnight, she checked her winning ticket and matched several numbers.

This is when Cecil thought: “I think I just won some money.” To her surprise, she was also able to match the fifth number from the drawing, granting her the million-dollar prize. “When I checked off the fifth number, I was in disbelief,” Cecil recalled.

“I have been playing the lottery for a long time and I never dreamed I would win a prize like this! It’s unbelievable.“

Incredibly excited, the winner woke up everyone in her home, shouting that she thought she had just won $1 million. After family members checked the ticket and confirmed this too, Cecil finally realized that the win was real.
