Winner in North Carolina Turns $50 Scratch-off Ticket into $1 Million

This is precisely the case of one incredibly lucky lottery player from Mebane, North Carolina, who recently bagged a million-dollar prize from a scratch-off ticket.

The lucky winner’s name is Trenon Holman, a woman from Alamance County, who tried her luck with the North Carolina Education Lottery’s $10 Million Spectacular scratch-off game. The incredibly fortunate player purchased her ticket from Quick Mart on US 70 in Mebane. Little did Holman expect that she would be able to turn $50 scratch-off ticket into a $1 million fortune.

According to the Lottery, the winner recently visited its headquarters to claim her prize. Similar to other lottery games, Holman had a chance to secure the full prize to annuity or collect a lump cash sum.

With the annuity option, she would receive $50,000 per year for a total of 20 years, collecting the full $1 million. On the other hand, the cash option would instantly grant the winner $600,000. After much consideration, Holman selected the latter option, collecting just above half a million dollars instantly.

As with other lottery and gambling winnings, the prize is subject to the relevant federal and state taxes. Once those deductions were applied, the lucky winner’s bank account grew by $429,014.

A Range of Prizes Remain in Play

The North Carolina Education Lottery’s $10 Million Spectacular scratch-off game launched back in December. With a cost per ticket of $50, the game grants players a chance to secure prizes between $50 and $10 million.

After the recent $1 million win, there are nine out of 20 such prizes remaining. The odds of winning $1 million from the popular scratch-off game are 1 in 813,895.5.

On the other hand, out of the five $10 million grand prizes, there are three that remain up for grabs. The players’ odds of winning a $10 million prize from the $10 Million Spectacular game are 1 in 3,255,582.

The odds of winning the lowest-tier prize from the scratch-off game, which is $50 are 1 in 9.37, while the overall odds of winning a prize from the Lottery’s $10 Million Spectacular game are 1 in 3.11.
