Trump Rumored to Be Considering Tilman Fertitta as Ambassador to Italy

As Donald Trump’s new term as POTUS approaches, the 78-year-old businessman is already considering his ambassadors. On Tuesday, the President-elect nominated Kimberly Guilfoyle as the United States ambassador to Greece. In the meantime, experts believe that billionaire Tilman Fertitta will be designated as US ambassador to Italy.

Fertitta Is a Possible Candidate for Ambassador to Italy

Multiple reports say that Fertitta, 67, is likely to serve as Trump’s ambassador to Italy. While Trump and his officials are yet to make an official comment on the matter, Fertitta isn’t an unlikely choice considering his relationship with the President-elect.

As a fervent supporter of the Republican Party, Fertitta enjoys a friendly relationship with fellow billionaire Trump. The former is best known as the owner of the Houston Rockets NBA franchise. A Texan himself, Fertitta bought the team for $2.2 billion in 2017.

In addition to that, Fertitta heads Landry’s, a prominent Texan casino and hospitality corporation. He owns some 600+ properties across America and beyond. His popularity was further bolstered by his participation in CNBC’s Billion Dollar Buyer reality show.

He has been closely involved in the gambling industry and recently increased his ownership stake in Wynn Resorts to 9.9%. While his position was described as “passive,” people familiar with the matter suggested that the billionaire may soon push for strategic changes.

Fertitta recently expanded its hospitality presence with the acquisition of the well-known Keens Steakhouse in Midtown Manhattan.

Last month, Fertitta, Trump and Elon Musk observed a Starship rocket launch in Texas.

Guilfoyle Becomes Ambassador to Greece

As mentioned, Kimberly Guilfoyle, 55, was nominated as the US ambassador to Greece. Described as a close friend and ally because of her relationship with Donal Trump Junior and close association with the Trump family, he is a skilled media personality who has previously served as a Fox News host.

Trump celebrated Guilfoyle’s expertise in law, media and politics, saying that these qualities made her perfect to represent the US in Greece and safeguard its interests.

Guilfoyle said that she was honored to accept Trump’s nomination and is looking forward to delivering on the Trump agenda.

Her appointment, however, would still require Senate confirmation and so will Fertitta’s, if the rumors are correct.
