Super Bowl Attracts Visitors to Las Vegas, Hotel Rooms Rates Dip

Promising supreme viewing experiences and hospitality, Las Vegas continues to attract sports fans despite not hosting the Super Bowl

This year’s Super Bowl is expected to attract sports fans from across the country to Louisiana. Super Bowl LIX is scheduled to be played on February 9, 2025, at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, and will feature a rematch of Super Bowl LVII that will see the Kansas City Chiefs face the Philadelphia Eagles.

Viewing Parties Attract Football Fans

While Las Vegas won’t be hosting this year’s event, many sports fans may prefer to visit the gambling capital of the world as opposed to viewing the competition in person. This is what assistant professor Amanda Bellarmino with UNLV’s William F. Harrah College of Hospitality, who was interviewed by the Las Vegas Review-Journal, predicted.

According to the assistant professor, many Las Vegas guests may consider visiting the city as opposed to going to Louisiana for the Super Bowl because of Sin City’s ability to provide world-class viewing experiences and hospitality. “For years, Super Bowl was busy because it gave fans the opportunity to bet on the game as there were limited markets with legalized sports betting,” she added.

While Bellarmino acknowledged the statewide expansion of sports betting, she added that many people still visit Las Vegas for important sports events such as the Super Bowl and March Madness “due to our unrivaled ability to create viewing parties.”

The assistant professor said the figures from this year’s Super Bowl cannot be compared to last year when Las Vegas hosted the beloved competition. Still, Bellarmino predicted that in comparison to 2022 and 2023, this year will likely record an increase.

Earlier this week, the American Gaming Association estimated that the mind-blowing sum of $1.39 billion would go down on Super Bowl LIX. Bill Miller, the Association’s president and CEO, said on the topic: “No single event unites sports fans like the Super Bowl, and that excitement extends to sports betting, with this year’s record legal handle reflecting its widespread appeal.”

Hotel Room Rates Record a Notable Decrease Year-over-Year

Ahead of the upcoming Super Bowl, the Las Vegas Review-Journal analyzed the hotel room rates across Sin City. A survey by the publication for room rates for Friday, Saturday and Sunday, before the popular competition, uncovered that the average room rate was $157.75 per night.

The average room rate this year was more than $100 cheaper when compared to 2024. In contrast, when Las Vegas hosted Super Bowl LVIII at Allegiant Stadium, the week before the game, the average room rates per night were $288.82.

While the Las Vegas Strip revenue recorded dips for six months, Barry Jonas, an analyst at Truist Securities, was optimistic. He pointed to the hotel and casino operators’ resilience, despite the decrease in revenue for several months.

In addition, tourists visiting Sin City hit 41.6 million in 2024, pointing to a 2.1% increase. This may also signal further increases across the gaming and entertainment verticals.
