Police Arrest Beloved Sheriff for Drunk Driving Near Casino
The sheriff was arrested on Saturday at the MGM Springfield Casino property and charged with drunk driving

A beloved Massachusetts sheriff has found himself in trouble after driving under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested outside a local casino and charged on Monday. While the man admitted he was guilty, he received overwhelming support from the local community.
Sheriff Cocchi Was Arrested for Drunk Driving
Hampden County Sheriff Nick Cocchi is best known for his contributions to the local community. Described by many as a good man and a good leader, he is someone people generally count on. However, as a human, Cocchi is not immune to making mistakes. One such mistake, unfortunately, has now caused him a wealth of trouble.
The sheriff was arrested on Saturday at the MGM Springfield Casino property and charged with drunk driving.
In a press conference in front of the courthouse, Cocchi admitted that he failed to live up to the high standards he had set for himself, his staff and the justice-involved population. The sheriff added that he takes full responsibility for his actions.
Cocchi tried to plead not guilty but quickly changed his plea once the evidence against him became overwhelming. As a result of his drunk driving near the casino, he will be on probation for a year and will forfeit his driver’s license for 45 days. In addition, he will be required to complete a driver alcohol education program.
Locals Defended the Sheriff
While Cocchi admitted his mistake, he received overwhelming support from his local community. Many people came to the defense of the beloved sheriff, saying that he was one of the best sheriffs that Hampden County had ever seen.
Even Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno jumped to Cocchi’s defense, saying that he was a responsible leader who was always thinking of the community. Sarno emphasized that the sheriff has been the recipient of a Distinguished Service Award for his contributions. He has also been crowned employee of the month multiple times.
His contributions have included helping the homeless, boosting graduation rates, tackling the local drug crisis and securing equipment for first responders during the pandemic. To top it off, he is also the founder of Freedom Pups, a program to rehabilitate prison inmates by having them care for and train dogs.
While many acknowledged his contributions, some said that they shouldn’t make him exempt from the rules. More cynical online commentators even suggested that Cocchi should “spend the night in his own system.”
