Philippine Tech Firm Becomes Latest to Secure Brazilian iGaming License
With the Brazilian government revealing a full list of all authorized gambling companies that can provide their products in the country as of January 1, 2025, more are keen to join
DigiPlus Interactive Corp, a Philippine-based game technology firm, has become the latest to obtain an iGaming license to operate in Brazil.
DigiPlus has been granted the go-ahead to offer both sports betting and online casino games in the country, making it the latest operator that can soon unfold its offer in the vibrant and somewhat challenging local market which has become legal as of January 1, 2025, for select companies.
DigiPlus Leverages Experience from the Philippines in Brazil’s iGaming Market
Through its local subsidiary, DigiPlus Brazil Interactive Ltd, the company said that it has received final approval from the local regulator, becoming one of the 10% of all applicants to have been granted its request to enter the country and operate in the newly-fledged and what is very likely– one of the largest gambling markets in the world.
DigiPlus Chairman Eusebio Tanco has welcomed the opportunity to see his company build on its existing experience which, in the case of the Philippines, has been the BingoPlus and ArenaPlus platforms.
Tanco had this to add in a statement outlining the position his company is taking in the local market and what can be expected next:
“We remain confident in our ability to align with Brazil’s regulatory requirements and introduce world-class gaming experiences to this dynamic market. This underscores our dedication to expanding into a new region while maintaining our focus on the Philippines as our core market.”
DigiPlus’ accreditation is not surprising in the slightest, after the company said previously that had indeed reached the advanced stages of a licensing process that would soon enable it to roll out its products in the local market.
In the meantime, Brazil is still not an open-shut case, as the country’s government has repeatedly insisted that regulators, stakeholders, and other responsible parties need to ensure that the market achieves two main goals.
Brazil’s iGaming Market Is Not an Open-shut Case
First, it ought to protect consumers and promote responsible gambling in a meaningful and impactful way, and second – it must oust black market operations. Failing that, the government of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has said that it would be willing to reverse the regulatory rules and suspend the gambling market in the country.
At the same time, Brazil has already been going after black market operators, having published a list of hundreds of websites that fail to qualify, as well as a whitelist of approved entities that are currently regulated under Brazilian law. DigiPlus is among the latter.
The launch of the regulated gambling market is hoping to help offer support to problem gamblers, fill budget holes, and tamp down illegal gambling by replacing unlawful operators with regulated ones that pay tax.
