France’s Performance Against Austria Leaves Many Questions
Despite possessing an array of attacking talent, Les Bleus scored just one goal in a lackluster performance against Austria that left fans questioning their form. The likes of Kylian Mbappe and Ousmane Dembele failed to shine as expected, raising concerns over their ability to break down organized defenses.

The only goal they scored in the first round of the tournament was actually an own goal by one of Austria’s defenders. Other than that, Austria’s defense was at the top of the game, preventing Mbappe & Co. from creating too many chances.
In fact, they produced only three shots at goal that evening, which was their lowest number in competitive games since March 2023 when they did the same against Ireland in qualifiers.
Netherlands to Show Their Defensive Power
France’s players failed to score a goal against Ralf Rangnick’s Austria. Now, they’re meant to take on the Dutch, who are coached by Ronald Koeman, who’s probably even better a tactician than Austria’s coach.
And even if that wasn’t the case, Koeman definitely has better players at his disposal than Rangnick, especially in the defensive department. Actually, some pundits believe that the Netherlands is the team with the best defense at the Euros.
They did concede a goal against Poland in the opening round of the tournament, but prior to that, we saw them keep a clean sheet in three of the four friendlies they played this year.
With players like their captain Virgil van Dijk, but also Stefan de Vrij, Nathan Ake, and Denzel Dumfries, the Dutch look very difficult to score against. Still, it’s their final third that impressed in their first game of the Euros.
Cody Gakpo was the man of the match, while towering striker Wout Weghorst proved to be Koeman’s joker by scoring the winning goal just two minutes after coming in on the pitch.
Netherlands vs. France Prediction
The French are one of the top favorites to win the 2024 Euro, but their bleak performance against Austria has made fans wonder about their ability to break organized defenses. They’ve got an even bigger test on their hands on Friday when they need to find a way to score against the mighty Dutch defense.
Will they pull it off? We think they will, although not too many times. In the previous Netherlands vs. France duel, Les Bleus won 2-1 thanks to two goals by Mbappe. We think something similar might happen this time around as well. Our prediction is that France will win, but not by more than a goal difference.
Pick: France
