Mario Barrios to Prove He’s the Real Deal
Mario Barrios is 29-2 overall, with his losses happening to Gervonta Davis (technical knockout) in 2021 and Keith Thurman (unanimous decision) in 2022. Since then, however, he’s 3-0, winning title bouts each time.
He won the interim WBC title against Jovanie Santiao by a somewhat surprising TKO; then went on to beat Yordenis Ugas and Fabian Maidana by unanimous decision. He defended his interim title successfully in those two bouts. Now, it’s time for him to try and defend his regular time.
The thing is that Barrios got his title promoted to regular status after Terence Crawford was labeled “champion in recess” by the WBC. Speaking of the devil, if Barrios beats Ramos on November 16, he might get to fight undefeated Crawford next year. So, will he win?
Abel Ramos Has a Tough Task on His Hands
Abel Ramos is 28-6-2 overall with a 2-2 record in his last four outings. The 33-year-old has a decent record – which is why he got to fight for the WBC Welterweight gold – but the fact is that he hasn’t fought against the toughest opponents in the division.
Actually, the bout with Barrios at the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson event is going to be his toughest challenge so far. Truth be told, he did have some fights against elite opponents, but he did not do very well. For example, he lost to Yordenis Ugas, Luke Santamaria, Cody Crowley, etc.
When it comes to his wins, most of them came via KO/TKO. He’s got the nuclear option in his fists, the evidence being that 22 of his 28 wins happened this way. Can he do the same to Barrios?
Mario Barrios vs. Abel Ramos Prediction
It’s got to be Mario Barrios. He’s a much better boxer than his opponent, whose pretty much only weapon is his destructive punch power. Barrios is on a whole other level, and he’s got big plans for the future. To achieve his dreams, he must ensure he wins fights like the one against Ramos.
Our prediction is that he’s going to take this bout very seriously and put on a tactical masterclass that will lead him to another win.
Pick: Mario Barrios
