Law Firm Considers Suing Riverside Resort & Casino after Data Breach

Murphy Law Firm asked players whose data has been breached to visit its site and explore the potential class action lawsuit to recover damages

The Riverside Resort & Casino, a gambling property in Laughlin, Nevada, has become the next target of a cyberattack. According to a recent report, a data breach has compromised the data of thousands of casino players.

Customers Can Sue the Casino

On behalf of the casino, law firm Wilson Elser Moskowitz Edelman & Dicker reported that the external system breach occurred on July 25 and was discovered on the same day. It was further reported that the breach had affected roughly 55,155 people.

The compromised data includes sensitive information that could potentially cause trouble for regular casino goers. On behalf of the individuals, Murphy Law Firm launched an investigation and is considering a class action lawsuit against the casino, alleging that its computer system was inadequately secured.

Murphy Law Firm pointed out that the cybercriminals have accessed customers’ files, potentially acquiring their names and social security numbers. This highly sensitive information could potentially be sold on the dark web or used for identity theft.

Murphy Law Firm urged Riverside Resort & Casino customers to remain vigilant. The firm asked players whose data has been breached to visit its site and explore the potential class action lawsuit to recover damages.

Other Companies Were Also Hit by Cybercriminals

Riverside Resort & Casino is not the only victim of cybercrime. Last month The British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC), which operates PlayNow in the Canadian province, reported a form of cyberattack that could have compromised customers’ passwords and emails. The company urged its players to change their passwords following the incident.

Last year, groups of hackers attacked US gambling giants, such as MGM Resorts and Caesars Entertainment, stealing valuable data. However, the police eventually managed to capture some of the perpetrators, thanks to global cooperation between authorities. These included a 17-year-old from Walsall, UK, who is believed to be connected to the cyberattack on MGM Resorts.

Earlier this year, a member of the Scattered Spider cybercrime group, which was believed to be behind the attacks on Caesars and MGM, was arrested. The 22-year-old was believed to be a pivotal member of the group and was described as a skilled SIM-swapper.

Unfortunately, experts predict that DDoS attacks will become the norm and advise companies to remain vigilant.
