GamStop Has Recorded 500K+ Registrations Since Its Inception
Currently, there are more than 440,000 people who remain excluded themselves from online gambling via the GamStop platform

Britain’s national online gambling self-exclusion scheme, GamStop, has reached a major milestone. According to the platform, it has surpassed 500,000 registrations, which highlights the increased visibility of safer gambling services.
GamStop Has Helped Thousands of UK Players
GamStop was launched in April 2018 and has since helped thousands of British players get their online gambling habits under control. The platform offers exclusion from all gambling websites regulated by the UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) for periods of between six months and five years.
2023 was a record-breaking year for GamStop, which saw a total of 92,000 new players exclude themselves from online gambling. However, 2024 might break this record considering the increasing number of new registrants. In April, for example, the platform saw a record-breaking 8,686 new registrants sign up for self-exclusion.
Currently, there are more than 440,000 people who remain excluded from gambling via the GamStop platform.
CEO Palmer Is Happy with GamStop’s Progress
Some have expressed concern about the increasing number of registrations. According to them, the increase in self-excluded people coincides with the rise of online gambling in the UK. For context, the first two quarters of the fiscal year were record periods for the industry, which continued to record increases in revenue.
Others, however, have argued that the higher number of people seeking help means that more players are now aware of the safer gambling tools available to them.
In any case, Fiona Palmer, CEO of GamStop, said that she is happy with the platform’s incredible progress. She noted that GamStop is now universally recognized as a robust tool that allows vulnerable players to take a break from gambling.
We are proud to have been able to help hundreds of thousands of people to take back control of their lives through self-exclusion. We hope to help many more in the years to come.

Many Young Players Have Made GamStop Accounts
In other news, GamStop recently highlighted a concerning increase in young registrants. While the platform said that it was pleased that more people are aware of its services, it was wary of the rising number of younger players making GamStop accounts.
Earlier research suggested that student gamblers are prone to overspending, highlighting what could become a serious issue.
Palmer noted that the figures mean that more young players are struggling with problem gambling. Because of that, she urged for education and treatment that focus on targeted interventions to help young people.
