Gambling Den Operator’s Death Caused by Twisted Love Triangle
A deadly hammer attack that led to the death of a well-known gambling den operator in Hong Kong was, apparently, the result of a twisted love triangle

The death of Mr. Wong, a well-known gambling den operator in Hong Kong’s gambling community, took everyone by surprise last week, sending a wave of shock in the city.
The victim, who was described by many as a savvy businessman who managed to make a name for himself in the industry, suffered a sudden and violent death.
The 33-year-old who worked on Pilkem Street in Yau Ma Tei suffered severe head injuries caused by a hammer attack.
“Initial investigations revealed that (the murder suspect) suddenly hit the back of the victim’s head more than 10 times with a hammer (outside the building),” according to superintendent Ching Chi-yan, an assistant Yau Tsim district commander for crime.
In recent news, in a surprising turn of events, it would appear that Mr. Wong was the victim of a disturbing love triangle between himself, the woman he had a romantic relationship with, and Mr. Lee, a man who was romantically involved with the respective woman.
Allegedly, the trio was consumed with jealousy and tension that eventually reached the point of no return, which led to the violent attack that caused Mr. Wong’s sudden and tragic passing.
The Jilted Lover Allegedly Attacked the Victim and Fled the Scene
The authorities identified the suspected perpetrator as Mr. Lee, who allegedly confronted Mr. Wong during a fit of rage which ended in the gruesome hammer attack that caused the latter’s untimely passing.
On Sunday morning at around 2:20 a.m., Mr. Lee and his girlfriend went to the gambling den to look for the victim. The trio left the premises soon after.
According to initial investigations, the suspect “suddenly hit the back of the victim’s head more than 10 times with a hammer (outside the building),” according to the superintendent.
Ching added that the alleged attacker and the woman left the premises and used a trash can to dispose of the hammer.
Following the attack, the victim remained conscious and was able to return to his gambling den.
A few hours later, at 6 a.m., the victim complained to his friends that he wasn’t feeling well and passed out after he was carried down the stairs.
Mr. Wong was transported to Queen Elizabeth Hospital and pronounced dead at 7:20am.
After feeling the scene, the suspect, who was considered armed and dangerous, was eventually caught and arrested together with four other suspects for allegedly aiding and abetting the crime.
Among them was the 32-year-old woman who was caught in Yau Ma Tei at around 12:50 p.m. on Sunday.
“We believe that these three arrested knew the (murder suspect) who committed the crime and helped him evade arrest by the police,” said the superintendent.
He added additional arrests could be possible as the investigations were still ongoing.
Community Members Mourn the Senseless Death
The troubling incident has left many members of the community in a state of shock and confusion while struggling to somehow come to terms with the act of senseless violence that has taken the life of the reputable businessman.
The love triangle that apparently triggered the hammer attack should serve as a stark reminder of the actual perils hiding behind jealousy and feelings that are not checked and addressed in time.
While the police investigation is still underway, authorities are working hard in an attempt to understand the exact events that led up to the fatal attack.
Police officers searched the gambling den and found and confiscated paraphernalia tied to illegal drugs, including crystal meth.
An investigation to see whether the murderer had taken illegal drugs prior to the attack was also launched.
All five suspects were detained for questioning on Monday morning. The case is investigated by detectives from the Yau Tsim District Criminal Investigation Department.
According to The Post, Mr. Wong was a suspected member of the 14K Triad, while the attacker belonged to the Wo Shing Wo Triad.
At the start of the year, Hong Kong police arrested 347 people during a crackdown targeting triad-managed illegal activities tied to sex, drugs, and gambling.
