Four US States, including New York, May Be the Next to Introduce iGaming

There is a buzz across the gambling industry with experts, government officials, and gambling operators saying that iGaming is very likely to be introduced in more US states. Speculations float around that Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, and New York will be the first in line to do so.

Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, and New York Could Soon Legalize iGaming

An array of experts and analysts who participated in the East Coast Gaming Congress held from September 21 to September 23 discussed that the US states Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, and New York will probably be next in introducing iGaming legislation and legalizing online gambling.

Speakers at the event talked about how the US states that have already introduced online and mobile sports wagering have built out the necessary infrastructure for the introduction of iGaming and are already collecting revenue from one digital gambling product. In addition to that gamblers in these states are already familiar with betting online so there is a wider potential market open for the introduction of new games.

For example, just last week the Indiana Gaming Commission (IGC) published a report of over 100 pages, which analyzed the opportunities for introducing online gambling in Indiana. One of the main points of the report was that the adoption process will be relatively easy as the state already allows online sports betting.

Only a few US states have legalized iGaming so far. These are New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Michigan, West Virginia, Delaware, and Connecticut. And it turns out online gambling is quite profitable. The six states account for winnings of the impressive amount of $8 billion in just two and a half years.

New York Senator to Push for the Introduction of iGaming Legislation in 2023

Oje News reported that the most passionate advocate for the introduction of iGaming in the state of New York is Senator Joseph Addabbo. He has committed to working for the launch of iGaming legislation in the state already in 2023.

New York advocacy director for iDEA Progress, John A. Pappas, however, has tried to put some perspective on the senator’s fervor. Pappas highlighted that the legislative process in connection with the introduction of sports betting and daily fantasy sports (DFS) took a very long time.

According to Pappas, it is more realistic to expect the whole process until the actual launch of the iGaming market in New York to take about six years. This means that New York residents may expect to play online casinos, poker, and slot games in 2028.
