A woman from Michigan has recently won the Powerball lottery by having an AI generate numbers for her.
45-year-old Tammy Carvey has won a whopping $100,000 by using the numbers provided by ChatGPT.
In her own words:
“I asked ChatGPT for a set of Powerball numbers, and those are the numbers I played.”
Four of the numbers the AI had given her made her ticket a winning one.
Carvey stated that after going through Google, she had been led to believe she had only won $50,000.
However, upon checking her Michigan Lottery account, Carvey had come to realize she had actually won $100,000.
Carvey hadn’t realized she had added on Power Play.
The ticket had been bought for the drawing on September 6.
She has shared how she decides when to buy a lottery ticket:
“I only play Powerball when the jackpot gets up there, and the jackpot was over $1 billion, so I bought a ticket.”
While having gone to visit the Michigan Lottery Headquarters to claim her check, Carvey stated that the money was going to be used in order to pay off her mortgage and that the rest of the money would be added to her savings.
Not the First
Carvey isn’t the only one to turn to AI for help with betting.
The number of people who have won the lottery has been increasing.
After her win, Carvey has become one of the lucky few.
Carrie Edwards, a grandmother from Virginia, just like Tammy Carvey, had ChatGPT generate a random set of numbers, which she then used to win the drawing that occurred on September 8.
Edwards’ original winnings were $50,000, however, because she had also added Power Play, it became $150,000.
The Lottery Business
The Michigan lottery has stated that, despite the usage of AI, Carvey’s draw was fully based on luck, as AI couldn’t have predicted the lucky numbers. They have made the following statement:
“The results of all Lottery drawings are random and cannot be predicted by utilizing artificial intelligence or other number-generating tools.”
