After beating Atlas 2:1, Inter Miami continue their Leagues Cup campaign on August 2 with a game against Nexaca. The Mexican team is in good shape, coming to Florida after a 3:1 win over Atlanta United in Georgia.
These guys are great offensively, but their defense might not be strong enough to stop Lionel Messi & Co. What this means is that they might try to outscore the Herons on August 2 – will this work out for them?

Lionel Messi in Top Form for Inter Miami
Lionel Messi didn’t score for Inter Miami in the 2:1 win over Atlas, but he made two assists. This won him the Man of the Match accolade. His teammates did okay that evening as well, especially two wingbacks, Jordi Alba and Marcelo Weigandt.
While their role is officially defensive, they did incredibly well on offense. Defensively, they could’ve done better. Actually, Inter Miami’s defense generally needs to be better if they want to achieve glory at the 2025 Leagues Cup.
The thing is that they allowed 15 goal attempts in that game. Luckily for them, Atlas made just one of those count, but it could be a whole different story against an offensive powerhouse as Nexaca.
Inter Miami’s first-choice goalie, Oscar Ustari, is out with an injury, and the same goes for his backup, Drake Callender. As a result, their third pick, Rocco Novo Rios, has been between the posts over the last couple of weeks. So far, he’s been great, but we’re not sure if he can keep on doing the same.
Can Nexaca Outscore Inter Miami on August 2?
We’re certain that Nexaca’s defense stands no chance against Lionel Messi and his teammates. Inter Miami are bound to score some goals on August 2. That said, it seems that the only way for the Mexican team to get anything out of this match is to go into an offensive battle with the Floridians.
Given that they started the 2025 Leagues Cup with a win, even a draw in the 90 minutes against Inter Miami would be a good achievement. As per the rules of this competition, the team that wins on penalties gets two points, while the loser gets one.
So, they just need to do the same thing as the Herons. Obviously, this is much easier said than done, but Nexaca’s roster is packed with talented forwards – Pavel Perez, Cambindo Diber, Tomas Badaloni, etc.
Inter Miami vs. Nexaca Prediction
We think this is going to be a very close game that could possibly even go to penalties. Both teams are likely to go all-in on the offense, which is why the safest pick in our eyes is “Over 3.5 Goals.”
Pick: Over 3.5 Goals
