Four California Lottery players are kicking off the fall season as newly minted millionaires, thanks to major wins from scratcher games.

California Has Four New Millionaires from the State Lottery

In Los Angeles, Roberto Dimarco scored a $1 million prize playing the Triple Red 777 scratcher. He bought the lucky ticket at Lucky 7 Liquor, located at 12408 Washington Blvd. According to lottery officials, just one top prize for this game remains unclaimed.

Meanwhile, in Orange County, Lourdes Valdez also won $1 million after playing the 50X the Cash scratcher. Her ticket was purchased at the Albertsons supermarket at 8440 E. Chapman Ave. in Orange. Additionally, up north in Winters, a town in Yolo County, Patrick Morrison claimed the top prize after playing the Sunny Money scratcher. He purchased his winning ticket at Lorenzo Market, located at 121 E. Grant Ave.

Last, but definitely not least, in San Jose, Lyumyla Mozhqua took home $1 million from another 50X the Cash ticket bought at a CVS Pharmacy on 525 W. Capitol Expressway. Officials noted that only three of the original 14 top prizes remain for this game.

These aren’t the only lucky players who have become millionaires this month, as one Ohio player won $2 million from a Royal Riches scratch-off ticket.

About the California State Lottery

The California State Lottery, established in 1984, was created to provide supplemental funding for public education in the state. Approved by voters through Proposition 37, the lottery’s mission is to generate additional revenue for California’s public schools and colleges without raising taxes. Since its inception, the California Lottery has contributed billions of dollars to educational institutions such as public schools, community colleges, and public universities.

The Lottery offers a variety of games, including draw games like Powerball, Mega Millions, SuperLotto Plus, and Daily 3, as well as a wide range of instant-win scratchers. Tickets are available at thousands of retail locations throughout the state. The California Lottery is known for producing numerous millionaires each year and regularly promotes transparency by publicly announcing major winners, as it is in the case we discussed earlier in the article.

Unlike other funding sources, lottery contributions are distributed on a per-pupil basis, allowing each school district to determine how to best use the funds. Although lottery money accounts for only a small percentage of overall school budgets, it provides valuable support for instructional materials, classroom technology, and other essential resources.
