Powerball Jackpot Reaches $57М Ahead of Monday Drawing

The Powerball Jackpot has climbed to $57 million after no one won the game’s top prize from the Saturday drawing. The drawing awarded no Match 5 prizes either, although a previous drawing saw dozens of players win seven-figure sums from the game.

Three Powerball Players Won $100K Each

The drawing that took place last Saturday was a rather uneventful one, especially in light of a recent chain of big winners. The $48 million jackpot remained unclaimed, carrying on to the next drawing and growing even further.

For reference, the winning Powerball numbers drawn on May 9 were 15, 41, 46, 47, and 56, plus the red Powerball 22. The Power Play multiplier was 2x.

Matching all winning numbers would have netted a hypothetical winner some $48 million, or $21.5 million if they chose the lump-sum option. While this didn’t happen and no one won a Match 5 prize either, several players managed to match four white numbers plus the Powerball to win the game’s third-tier prize.

Six such players won $50,000 each, while another three scooped up $100,000 each due to the optional Power Play feature.

The jackpot has now grown to $57 million ahead of tonight’s drawing. The top prize’s cash value is currently $25.7 million.

Two Powerball Jackpots Were Won Recently

As mentioned, the temporary lull follows a busy period for Powerball that saw two separate jackpot wins occur back-to-back. The first of these was a pretty memorable moment since it not only split the $143 million jackpot between two winners, but also awarded Match 5 prizes to dozens of lucky winners.

While this seemed quite unusual at first glance, the explanation was quite simple – as it turned out, the winning combination matched common player patterns. In this case, the numbers drawn matched one of the number columns as they appear on Powerball tickets.

The following drawing, Powerball awarded yet another jackpot as two other players simultaneously matched the winning numbers to split a $20 million prize.
