Traffic Manager Wins $50K with Mistaken Purchase of Fast Play Ticket

The fortunate player from Glen Burnie, Maryland, won one of the grand prizes from the Maryland Lottery's popular game, Fast Play Double Win

There’s an old saying about luck which reads: “Luck comes and goes; you have to seize it.” While some gamblers consider engaging in luck rituals or using their favorite numbers, others consider randomness may bring them all the luck they need.

Recently, a lottery winner didn’t rely on luck but rather hit the wrong button while purchasing a ticket and to his surprise, secured a five-figure prize. The peculiar case involved Roderick Doughty, a Glen Burnie, Maryland resident.

The man, who works as a traffic manager, visited a grocery store while on a break from work to purchase lottery tickets. Speaking to the Maryland Lottery, the man admitted that he liked scratch-off games, as well as Pick3, Pick 4 games and intended to buy a couple of tickets.

Despite his initial plan, when he stood in front of the Lottery vending machine, he selected the wrong option. As a result, Doughty bought two $5 Fast Play Double Win tickets. Immediately checking the tickets, the man saw that the first one didn’t have any win. However, the second $5 Fast Play Double Win ticket brought Doughty one of the game’s top prizes, a sweet $50,000.

Shocked, the Lucky Winner Returned to Work on the Day of the Win

The Glen Burnie man was asked what he plans to do with the hefty lottery win. He admitted to planning to share it with his family, and also spend a significant portion on a downpayment for a house. The $50,000 win made Doughty the fourth winner of such a prize from the Lottery’s popular Fast Play Double Win game.

While still at the shop on the day he won the prize, the man said that he was completely shocked. Still, Doughty returned to work like nothing happened. Later on the same day, when he went home, he shared the exciting news with his family.

The store that sold Doughty his winning ticket is in for a treat. The winner purchased the ticket at Baden Grocery at 16709 Brandywine Road in Brandywine. After selling the winning ticket, the grocery store will receive a $500 bonus from the Maryland Lottery.

The Fast Play Double Win Game Offers Plenty of Prizes

At the launch of Fast Play Double Win in 2023, there were a total of 20 prizes of $50,000 each. In light of the recent win, now, there are 16 such prizes remaining in play.

On the other hand, the game also offered a total of 20 prizes of $5,000 each at the start. Currently, there are 16 such prizes remaining in play.

The overall odds of winning a prize from the Maryland Lottery’s Fast Play Double Win game are 1 in 3.92.
