- A Michigan woman from Genesee County managed to claim a $1,000,000 prize
- The money was scooped from Lucky Stars Instant Win game, a fairly new game with the Michigan Lottery
- The woman opted for the lump sum, reducing the total payout to $693,000
A Michigan woman was able to scoop a $1,000,000 prize from the Lucky Stars Instant Win game earlier this month, celebrating Cinco de Mayo with a bang.
The state lottery has detailed the win in a statement, and also spoke to the winner, who is from Genesee County, and offered insight into how she came to secure the win.
Woman claims a huge prize as she buys the winning ticket with the winnings from other tickets
Recounting the story, the winner said that she played the lottery a lot, but never actually planned to stop and buy the winning ticket itself.
“I went out with a friend for Cinco de Mayo, and after she suggested we stop to buy tickets, so we did,” she told the Michigan Lottery.
The woman first got a few tickets and bought $30, which she immediately used to buy more lottery tickets at the Liquor Wheel at 4117 Clio Road in Flint.
She scratched off the film right there in the store and, upon realizing that she had indeed won, she ran out of the venue, tears on her face – she had won the seven-figure prize.
After the excitement settled, she naturally chose to opt for the most preferred option – the one-time lump sum, which allows the woman to immediately settle a handful of tight loose ends.
The winner has scooped $693,000 from the lottery and visited the lottery’s headquarters to claim the prize. While no photo-op was shared by the lotter.
The Lucky Stars game has already been going strong, launched only recently, and is offering players a new instant lottery game to enjoy.
