Powerball Sets Sail for Great Britain as Allwyn Introduces National Lottery Improvements
Just like the American version of the game, the UK-based Powerball will require players to match 5 white numbers plus the red Powerball in order to win the top prize
Allwyn, the current custodian of the UK National Lottery, unveiled planned improvements to the Lotto game, as well as the introduction of Powerball, one of the world’s most recognizable jackpot games.
Allwyn Announces Lotto Improvements
According to Allwyn, the enhanced version of the Lotto game will include a new two-round format every Wednesday and Saturday draw. This will essentially give players two shots at a win for the same price.
Mathematically, this makes players almost twice as likely to win a prize. The new chances of winning any prize, including break-even prizes, will be 1 in 4.9. As a result, the game is expected to create more than twice the Lotto millionaires. Estimates say that the new format should create an average of 345 winners of seven-figure sums a year, up from 140.
If approved by regulators, this new format will launch on June 10.
Powerball Comes to the UK
At the same time, Allwyn confirmed that the famous American lottery game Powerball will be coming to the UK for the first time. According to the announcements, jackpots could reach up to GBP 1 billion.
The UK-specific version of Powerball will not only change the lives of players, but those of many others across the UK, too, due to the fact that it is estimated to raise almost a billion pounds for UK Good Causes in its first five years of operation.
UK Powerball tickets will cost GBP 4 per line. Just like the American version of the game, the UK-based Powerball will require players to match 5 white numbers plus the red Powerball in order to win the top prize. However, the UK version will have an extra prize tier at the lower levels, awarding GBP 8 prizes to anyone who matches 2 white numbers.
The UK launch of Powerball will be made possible by Allwyn’s partnership with the Multi-State Lottery Association (MUSL).
Allwyn has yet to confirm when the UK Powerball will drop, but said that it will happen this summer.
