Powerball Jackpot Survives Monday Drawing, Climbs to $58M
A hypothetical winner from the upcoming drawing would have the opportunity to either take the annuity option for the full sum, or take the one-time lump-sum option of $26.4 million
A new Powerball jackpot cycle recently began, offering players another shot at winning a life-changing sum. The game’s top prize has so far survived three drawings and has just surpassed the $50 million mark.
The Jackpot Survived a Third Drawing
The Monday Powerball drawing was rather unexciting since no significant prizes were awarded, despite the 3x Power Play modifier. In addition to no one winning the jackpot, players failed to get Match 5 prizes, leaving the drawing without a seven-figure payout.
The winning numbers for the April 13 drawing were 38, 43, 59, 63, and 64, plus the red Powerball 15. Successfully matching all of these would have meant a $47 million windfall for a hypothetical winner. The cash value of the April 13 jackpot, on the other hand, was $21.3 million.
As mentioned, no one matched the five white numbers minus the Powerball to win the game’s second-tier prize of $1 million ($2 million with Power Play) either. At the same time, there were five players who matched four white numbers and the Powerball to win $50,000 each, although none of them had Power Play active to boost their prize to $150,000.
The Powerball prize has now reached $58 million for the next drawing, which is set to take place this Wednesday. A hypothetical winner would have the opportunity to either take the annuity option for the full sum, or take the one-time lump-sum option of $26.4 million.
Saturday Drawing Awarded $2.2M to Californian
The previous Powerball drawing also failed to crown a winner of the grand prize, although a player from California came close after matching all five white numbers except the Powerball. As a result, they won the Match 5 prize of $1 million, but, per California’s pari-mutuel lottery rules, the player will take home $2.2 million instead.
The most recent Powerball jackpot was won only a few drawings ago when a lucky player in Delaware won a whopping $231 million. The same drawing also awarded a $2 million March 5 prize to a Texan who had the Power Play feature active.
