Singer Ray J Recovering After Being Hospitalized Following Las Vegas MMA Fight
- R&B singer Ray J was knocked out in an exhibition MMA fight in Las Vegas a couple of days ago
- He is currently in the hospital and said he is getting better
- The event sparked extra concerns due to previous health issues that the singer has exhibited
R&B singer and reality TV star Ray J is recovering at a Las Vegas hospital after being knocked unconscious during an influencer-led amateur exhibition MMA match over the weekend. The singer and TV personality was defeated by YouTuber Supa Hot Fire at Brand Risk, hosted by Adin Ross at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.
Ray J Is Still in the Hospital
According to MMA Fighting, Ray J came out aggressively in the opening round before Supa Hot Fire, whose real name is DeWayne Stevenson, shifted the momentum early in the second. However, Stevenson knocked Ray J out less than 30 seconds into Round 2. The clip quickly went viral online due to the abrupt finish and because Ray J had already spoken publicly earlier this year about ongoing serious health issues.
TMZ reported that Ray J admitted himself to a Las Vegas hospital roughly two hours after the fight. According to the outlet, doctors were evaluating him for a possible concussion while also monitoring concerns related to an unusually slow heartbeat. Ray J made a brief statement, which provided fans with a direct update after photos of him at the hospital began circulating online.
Previous Health Concerns Contribute to the Current Issue
The incident attracted even more attention because Ray J had previously shared troubling updates about his health a few months ago. According to one source, the singer had claimed he might not have much time left to live, but provided no details about this claim. Meanwhile, other outlets noted that he spoke about heart-related issues following a January hospitalization for pneumonia.
Ray J has also spoken openly about how years of excessive alcohol consumption and stimulant use affected his health. During a livestream earlier this year, he said he had underestimated the lasting impact of alcohol and Adderall. He said that he thought he could “handle” the substances, but he ultimately couldn’t.
According to his latest statement from the hospital, Ray J was “getting better,” although he did not reveal many details about his current condition, and many fans still have concerns about his health. Despite that, the singer added that he still intends to perform for fans at the May 29 show at the Pete Be Center in San Jose.
Over the past couple of years, Las Vegas has become a major hotspot for MMA fights, and not just celebrity or amateur bouts like the one between Ray J and Supa Hot Fire. The UFC has had a strong foothold in the city, and in fact, it was one of the first organizations to host big events in Vegas during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
