Player Wins $214M Powerball Jackpot With Pennsylvania Ticket

A very lucky player hit the Powerball jackpot on Monday’s drawing, winning $214 million on a ticket purchased in Pennsylvania

The player, whose identity as well as the exact location where he purchased the ticket have not yet been disclosed, matched all five white numbers (9-22-57-67-68) and the red Powerball (14) with 3x power play.

According to Powerball.com, the odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million while the odds of matching all five white balls are 1 in 11,688,053.

The latest win reset the next upcoming drawing on Wednesday, August 14 to $20 million ($10.2 million cash value).

The previous Wednesday, the jackpot remained unclaimed and it was expected to go over $200 million for the next drawing.

Past Powerball Jackpot Wins

The latest win marks the 20th time the Powerball jackpot has been won in the Keystone State.

Previously, the Powerball jackpot was reset after a player from Ohio scooped up the $139 million on July 3rd’s drawing.

In November 2022, a particularly lucky Californian resident, Edwin Castro, managed to guess all six numbers that brought him a $2.04 billion (lump sum of $997.6 million) jackpot, marking the largest jackpot to be paid in US lottery history.

Powerball has also witnessed jackpots going over $1 billion on five different occasions. The list includes a $1.326 billion jackpot on April 7

The drawing was held the morning after the night the drawing was initially set to take place because of technical difficulties.

Mega Millions lottery games have also gone over the $1 billion mark on six occasions, including a Floridian’s $1.603 billion jackpot hit on August 8

Three Weekly Drawings

Both the Powerball and the Mega Millions jackpots go up during the following games until a new ticket matches all six numbers, including the extra Powerball or Mega Millions Gold Ball in each respective game.

Powerball drawings are held three times a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays at 10:59 p.m.

Different US states (45 plus Washington DC, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands) use different deadlines for buying tickets.

For instance, players from New Jersey can purchase $2 tickets ($1 extra to add Power Play for up to 5x potential win) until 9:59 p.m. on the day of the drawing. New Yorkers can purchase at 10 pm on the dot.

The game features a 10x Power Play possibility whenever the jackpot is below the $150 million mark.

Prizes range from $4 for matching the Powerball to $1 million for matching all five white balls (except for the Californian version) to the jackpot for matching all six balls.

Tickets can be bought from gas stations, convenience and grocery stores, airport terminals, or online.
