Manchester United Hoping for Another Win

In their most recent competitive game, Manchester United beat Manchester City 2:1, winning the 2024 FA Cup along the way. The match took place in May at Wembley, and Eric Ten Haag’s men can feel lucky for winning that day.

After scoring two quick goals in the first half, they switched their strategy to defending with everything. As a result, they had the ball in their possession for only one-quarter of the time. They were on the back foot, but their plan worked as they allowed just one goal which was enough to win the game.

The roster of players who featured in that game is pretty much the same. Man United did, however, bring in a couple of good players over the summer, most notably Joshua Zirkzee, but he might not play in the August 10 game, at least not from the start.

Manchester City Plotting Revenge

Manchester City want to start their 2024-25 campaign with a win over their city rivals. They have the manpower to pull it off, given that their squad is pretty much unchanged compared to the previous season, in which they won the Premier League.

However, some of their key men might still need rest given that they’ve had a very busy summer. Three of Manchester City’s English players were in the squad of the Three Lions that reached the Euro 2020 Final last month. In addition to those three, Man City had many other players represent their nations at the Euros, including Rodri (Spain), Jeremy Doku Kevin de Bruyne (Belgium), and others.

Some of Man City’s players played in the Copa America, and some like Julian Alvarez are still with their teams at the 2024 Olympics.

Manchester United vs. Manchester City Prediction

We predict that this is going to be a real banger, probably with plenty of goals. But which team will score more goals? Our pick is Manchester City. It’s just that Pep Guardiola’s team has such a long bench that even with some of their key men struggling with fitness, the Cityzens should be fine.

Pick: Manchester City
