Drake Curse Hits Again as Rapper Loses $1M on Bets in Two Weeks
Rapper Drake has lost $1 million in sports bets on the NBA and the Stanley Cup finals over two weeks, keeping the “Drake curse” alive
The “Drake curse”, which is a decade-old popular belief that claims rapper Drake brings bad luck to any sports team he chooses to support, has once again popped up as the talk of the town as fans have been seen reacting to his latest betting misfortune.
Rough Year for Drake
The rapper, who was once celebrated as an iconic artist in the 2010s, is going through a tough year.
In the last few months, he was marred by criticism from former ex-collaborators and went through a high-profile feud with Kendrick Lamar.
The feud ended with the latter smashing Drake in a rap battle and celebrating his win with a Juneteenth concert.
To add more to his troubles, Drake experienced a big financial blow after he lost two sports bets of $500,000 each after wagering on the NBA and the Stanley Cup finals.
The Canadian rap musician who gained fame as an actor on the TV teenage drama series Degrassi: The Next Generation originally placed a $500,000 bet on the Edmonton Oilers’ victory, explaining his choice as “self-explanatory” given his known loyalty for Canadian teams.
On June 24, rivals Florida Panthers triumphed over the Canadian team, despite the Oilers’s impressive comeback from a 0-3 deficit before losing to the Panthers in Game 7.
Drake also shared a betting slip featuring another $500,000 wager on the Dallas Mavericks to win the NBA finals.
However, the Boston Celtics were crowned as the 2024 NBA Champions after defeating Drake’s favorites.
Jayson Tatum’s impressive 31-point performance helped the franchise grab its 18th championship.
With both of his bets failing, Drake ended up with a whopping $1 million loss in just two weeks.
The Curse is “Alive and Well”
As expected, fans reacted to the rapper’s latest setbacks, making the “Drake curse” once again gain social media traction.
According to the Dallas Nation account via Twitter, Drake’s latest betting stubs prove the curse is “alive and well.”
Drake, who had previously joked about this curse during the Toronto Raptors’ NBA title run back in 2019, used sarcasm to address it after the Raptors advanced past the Orlando Magic.
Drake’s betting habits continue to amuse fans. However, Lamar’s diss track called “Meet the Grahams” seems to accuse Drake of dealing with having gambling problems among others.
The rapper’s latest betting loss seems to be very little to contradict Lamar’s fire bar “You got gamblin’ problems, drinkin’ problems, pill-poppin’ and spendin’ problems. Bad with money…” from the same diss track.
Last October, the rapper lost a $1.3 million payout following Jake Paul’s victory over Dillon Danis.
In May 2022, Drake lost $20 million playing roulette on his favorite crypto casino but still decided to donate $1 million BTC to a lucky fan.
In February 2024, Drake managed to break his curse with a winning $1.15 million wager on the Kansas City Chiefs defeating the San Francisco 49ers during the Big Game.
