WrestleMania 42 Attendance Down, TV and Online Viewership Up
The WWE numbers for the 42nd edition of WrestleMania are out, and they signal lower in-person attendance; TV ratings and online engagement looked strong
This year’s WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas didn’t manage to draw in as many fans of the beloved yearly pro wrestling event produced by World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) as it did last year.
However, the much-anticipated, which was originally launched more than four decades ago as the brainchild of WWE chief executive officer Vince McMahon, continued to stand firm across television and online platforms.
4th All-Time Ranking, Despite 15% Drop
According to official WWE numbers, the two-night event at Allegiant Stadium gathered a total of 106,072 people, a number that signaled a 15% decrease from the 124,693 reported for the previous year.
Nonetheless, the figure placed WrestleMania 42 ranks fourth among all two-night editions of the event.
Earlier editions still lead by a wide margin. For example, WrestleMania 39 holds the record with 161,892 fans at SoFi Stadium, while WrestleMania 40 drew 145,298.
Money-wise, early estimates say this year’s event gathered little under the $66 million record set by the 2025 edition. However, the fact that ticket prices went up had a direct impact on the recent revenue growth, while also making a direct year-over-year comparison less straightforward.
Away from the stadium, the numbers showed a more positive outlook, with WWE saying that Saturday’s matches broadcast on ESPN2 were the most-watched programs of the year for the channel. Sunday segments on ESPN were also the most viewed of the weekend.
1.3B Views on Social Media
Online engagement reached a new peak, with more than 1.3 billion views across social platforms. WWE said this was an 18% increase from last year’s record.
Fan engagement extended beyond broadcasts as well, with the five-day WWE World experience, held in partnership with Fanatics, reporting record paid participation.
Inside the ring, the action delivered expected highlights, with Cody Rhodes retaining his undisputed WWE championship against Randy Orton. On Sunday, Roman Reigns defeated CM Punk to win the World Heavyweight Championship.
However, much of the attention shifted outside the ring, as CM Punk was involved in a confrontation with a fan at the MGM Grand, while Sean Waltman said he was physically assaulted during the weekend. Booker T also described negative fan interactions.
“For me it was the toughest time I have ever had to deal as far as the fan interaction goes,” Booker T said. “A lot of them were outright disrespectful.”
Despite the lower attendance, WrestleMania 42 showed that its reach continues to grow beyond the arena.
