Ohio Trust Claims $60M Mega Millions Prize
In an official release, the Ohio Lottery said that Shaun A. Putman, a representative of the trust, just came forward to take the prize home
The winner of the recent $60 million Mega Millions jackpot has emerged to claim their prize. As it turns out, it wasn’t an individual player, but rather an Ohio-based trust.
Ohio Trust Comes Forward to Take the Prize Home
In March, the popular Mega Millions game awarded two jackpots almost back-to-back. While the winner of the first prize, a jackpot of some $536 million, came forward to claim it shortly, the second prize remained unclaimed for over a month.
The ticket that won the second jackpot of $60 million was sold in Van Wert, sparking various guesses about the winner’s identity. As it turns out, it wasn’t a single player, but the Happy Trails Trust that won the prize.
In an official release, the Ohio Lottery said that Shaun A. Putman, a representative of the trust, just came forward to take the prize home. Like many other big lottery winners, Putman chose to go with the lump sum option instead of the annuity. As a result, the Happy Trails Trust scooped up $30 million before taxes. After taxes, the trust will receive $21,975,000.
While many players have their preferred numbers, in this case, the winners chose the auto-pick option. Fate smiled on them, allowing them to beat odds of 1 in 290.5 million to match the winning combination of 4, 11, 18, 38, and 50, plus the gold Mega Ball 24.
The Game Experiences a Temporary Lull
In other news, the Mega Millions prize is currently at $150 million with a cash option of $67.3 million. The next drawing is set to take place this Friday at 11 pm ET.
The most recent drawing took place yesterday, but failed to elect a winner. In addition to that, no player managed to match the five white numbers to get the game’s second-tier prize, which ranges from $2 million to $10 million, depending on the multiplier.
