DraftKings Outlines Expansion Plans for Alberta, Canada

Key Points
  • The popular sports betting and casino platform has become the latest to confirm its ambitions for the soon-to-be-available market in Canada

DraftKings has confirmed that it will be among the 32 or so companies looking to gain entry in Alberta, Canada. As the province is preparing to launch its online sports betting and iGaming industry, DraftKings is among the leading names to join the fray.

Alberta Will Be Second Canadian Opportunity for DraftKings

The company will be pursuing an entry through both its Sportsbook and Casino products, and seek to secure an early-mover advantage in the province. Commenting on these developments, Greg Karamitis, EVP and general manager of sports at the company, had this to add:

“We’re excited about the opportunity to expand DraftKings’ footprint in Canada and bring our online sportsbook and casino experiences to customers in Alberta. With the anticipated launch aligning with the World Cup, hosted right here in North America, it’s a particularly exciting moment for sports fans in the province to engage with our platform.”

Alberta would be the 34th jurisdiction in which DraftKings has entered, and a second province in Canada, after the company previously launched in Ontario, the first to locally regulate its iGaming and sports betting.

DraftKings hopes to be able to launch for the universally set date of July 13, 2026, and is hardly the only company to pursue this launch.
