Virginia Lottery Winner Surprised after $100 Win Turns Out as $100K

A Norfolk man celebrated his $100,000 lottery win after initially thinking that he had won only $100 from the Virginia Lottery's $326,000,000 Fortune scratch-off game

One lottery player in Virginia was pleasantly surprised by a $100 win from a scratch-off ticket game from the Virginia Lottery. But what the lucky man thought was a $100 win turned out to be one of the second-largest prizes from the game, a whopping $100,000.

The Lottery revealed details earlier this week regarding the Norfolk man whose name was Teddy Breheim. The fortunate lottery player bought a ticket for the Lottery’s $326,000,000 Fortune scratch-off game from Rite Aid at 2040 Atlantic Avenue in Chesapeake.

The player didn’t wait long and scratched off the ticket only to find a $100 win. At the time, Breheim thought that this was a good payout, considering the ticket costs $50.

He placed the ticket in his pocket and went on with his day. However, in an unexpected turn of events, Breheim took another look at the ticket later on and was shocked to realize his win was actually $100,000.

Profits from the Virginia Lottery power the state’s K-12 education program. Norfolk, where the lucky winner lives, has received more than $28.2 million in K-12 education funds from the Lottery for the last fiscal year.

On the other hand, for the fiscal year 2023, the Lottery helped generate $867 million for K-12 education. The sum represents approximately 10% of the program’s total budget.

Prizes That Vary in Size Remain Up for Grabs from $326,000,000 Fortune

The Virginia Lottery introduced the $326,000,000 Fortune ticket back in 2022. The cost per play is $50 and the ticket grants a chance for prizes between $50 and the mind-blowing $5 million.

While at the start of the scratch-off game, there were three $5 million prizes each, now only one remains to be claimed. On the other hand, out of a dozen prizes of $100,000 each, after the most recent win, there’s only one such prize up for grabs.

At the launch of the game, 80 prizes of $10,000 each were up for grabs. Out of that total, currently, there are only 16 remaining in play.

When the lottery rolled out the $326,000,000 Fortune ticket, 500 prizes of $5,000 each were up for grabs. Now, there are 71 such prizes remaining to be claimed.

The overall odds of winning a prize from the $326,000,000 Fortune ticket are 1 in 3.43. On the other hand, the odds of winning a top prize from the popular game are 1 in 2,774,400.
