Northern Nevada HOPES Wants to Help Problem Gamblers
A new outpatient program is designed to reach those in need and help them begin to overcome their gambling-related addiction
As problem gambling remains an embedded societal problem and a source of economic and personal ills, Northern Nevada HOPES has launched a new outpatient program that will seek to address gambling-related harm and help those in need overcome their issues.
The new program is going to be available to individuals who are struggling to control their impulsive behavior in several addictive activities, such as sports betting, lotteries, horse racing, casino gambling, and cryptocurrencies.
Nevada Gets New Outpatient Program Dedicated to Problem Gamblers
The program is planned for a period of six weeks and will take place from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. Those who wish to be admitted into the program and have an opportunity to access its resources would need to allocate a minimum of nine hours a week to be eligible, Northern Nevada HOPES said in a statement.
Commenting on the opportunity to bring such opportunities locally, behavioral health coordinator Danica Pierce said that she was proud to see Northern Nevada HOPES launch this much-needed resource and make it available to local communities.
“Problem gambling is often hidden, but its impacts are profound. This program provides a safe, structured space for healing and recovery,” Pierce explained. Problem gambling remains a pressing issue for Americans, with an estimated 1% to 3% of adults suffering from a gambling-related issue.
The mass legalization of sports gambling and online casino growth, paired with prediction markets and sweepstakes social casinos, have further added to the challenges struggling gamblers face every day.
Northern Nevada HOPES seeks to mitigate some of this by offering actionable resources and the opportunity to see meaningful changes made in the lives of people who struggle to cope with their compulsive behavior.
