NCPG Continues to Support Community Organizations

On Thursday, the American nonprofit organization advocating for the mitigation of gambling-related harm and prevention of problem gambling, the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG), announced it awarded $320,000 in Agility Grant funding to a total of eight organizations. Using this much-needed funding, the organizations will combat problem gambling on a local level, while strengthening prevention efforts and raising awareness of the dangers of gambling.

Thanks to the Agility Grants program, the NCPG can fund different initiatives that seek to prevent gambling harm, establish new partnerships and leverage new approaches to tackle such issues. The latest funding represents the sixth such round since the launch of the program in January 2022. In that time, more than $1 million has been invested in a range of prevention programs.

Each year, Agility Grants are awarded via funding rounds taking place in spring and fall. The eight organizations that will benefit from $320,000 will receive the grants under the program’s Fall 2024 funding. On the other hand, the Council confirmed that the Spring 2025 funding round is expected to start accepting applications from January 15, 2025. The application submission will remain open through February 26, 2025, while the awarded grants will be confirmed in May 2025.

Local Community Groups Play a Key Role in the Fight Against Excessive Gambling and Harm

The funding of the NCPG’s Agility Grants Program is possible thanks to contributions by the NFL and the NFL Foundation. The efforts, outlined in a multimillion multi-year agreement reaffirm the League’s dedication to raising awareness of the importance of responsible betting.

Besides the NFL, the program benefits from funding from FanDuel and PlayTech. The extra funding enables the Agility Grants Program to be more flexible and effectively prevent problem gambling.

As legalized sports gambling grows across the country, so too does the need for community-driven solutions to prevent problem gambling.

Anna Isaacson, SVP of social responsibility at the NFL

According to Anna Isaacson, the NFL’s SVP of social responsibility, the expansion of sports betting across the country requires additional efforts to combat problem gambling and educate about the dangers of the activity. “We are proud to continue supporting the National Council on Problem Gambling and the innovative prevention strategies being developed by these grant recipients through our ongoing partnership,” she added.

Keith Whyte, NCPG’s executive director also spoke about the importance of funding community organizations. “Investing in community-level initiatives is essential for effective problem gambling prevention, and we are proud to support these organizations as they work to implement comprehensive solutions,” he added.

The list of community organizations that will benefit from the $320,000 Agility Grant funding includes CADCA, Envision Partnerships, Neighborhood Youth Academy, East Carolina University Foundation, Student Assistance Services, Oregon Council on Problem Gambling, Regents of the University of Michigan and the University at Albany, Center for Behavioral Health Promotion and Applied Research.
