The win by one Donald Bunn of Rocky Mount is the most recent in a series of similar wins by local players, with multiple other people fetching the same prize pool – $100,000 – as Bunn did, playing various games offered by the state lottery.
Bunn’s victory occurred on Saturday after he bought the $30 scratch-off ticket and couldn’t believe his luck.
“I told my buddies I was going to hit for $100,000. It was just my time,” the winner told the North Carolina Education Lottery.
The man purchased his ticket at Dabney Speed EZS Mart on Western Boulevard in Tarboro, with the winner celebrating the six-figure prize with the words: “This is the best feeling in the world.”
He opted for the cash option, $72,018, which includes state and federal taxes, and claimed his prize on Monday, June 1. He won playing the Cash Payday game, which originally offered 80 $100,000 prizes, with 65 remaining to be claimed.
Yet, Bunn is not the only North Carolinian to have recently won from the lottery. A woman secured a $100,000 jackpot from a $20 scratcher playing the Red Ruby 7’s lottery game.
In another recent win, a North Carolina woman has flipped a $30 scratcher into a $100,000 payout by playing the Cash Payday game.
