Michigan: Lottery Player Eyes a New Car and House After $2M Win

An incredibly fortunate player purchased three scratch-off tickets, hitting a top prize on the last ticket

Many lottery players dream of winning big. In some cases, a hefty win is just around the corner and this is precisely the case of one Wayne County, Michigan man, who recently purchased a total of three tickets and scored a multi-million win with the last ticket. The Michigan Lottery uncovered details Monday regarding the lucky winner, who chose to remain anonymous.

Instant Ticket Games Grant a Chance for Life-Changing Prizes

While the fortunate player’s identity may remain a mystery forever, what’s known so far is that he purchased his ticket at River Oaks Marathon on 20015 Ann Arbor Trail in Dearborn Heights. The 32-year-old Wayne County man decided to try his luck in the Lottery’s $30 Colossal Cashword instant ticket game. To his surprise, on the third ticket purchase, he won one of the game’s top prizes, for a whopping $2 million win.

Suzanna Shkreli, the Michigan Lottery’s commissioner, spoke about the instant tickets the lottery offers and the chance to win life-changing prizes. “Congratulations to the player and his family on their $2 million win,” she added.

At the launch of Colossal Cashword, the instant ticket game offered three top prizes of $2 million each. After the most recent win, only one top prize remains in play. Costing $30 per play, the instant game grants a chance to win prizes between $30 and $2 million with the overall odds of winning any prize being 1 in 3.44.

Buy Another One

The lucky winner spoke to Lottery officials revealing that when he purchased his first Colossal Cashword ticket, he won $30. Then, the Wayne County man decided to purchase another one with the second ticket turning out as a non-winner.

This didn’t discourage the fortunate player who purchased a third ticket. The young man then scratched off the ticket while still at the store. “When I revealed the seventh word, I assumed it was a $600 winning ticket, so I scanned it and got a message to file a claim at the Lottery office,” he added.

Returning to his car, the man handed the ticket to his wife to scan it with the Michigan Lottery app. The couple was shocked when the scanner showed a $2 million top prize. The 32-year-old man started to scream with joy.

Visiting the Lottery headquarters, the Wayne County man was presented with a big choice: to either collect the full sum via annuity payments or take home a lump sum payment of approximately $1.3 million. The man decided to take home the lump cash sum, a choice that isn’t surprising considering that most lottery players prefer it when compared to annuity payments.

When he was asked by the Lottery officials about his plans for the windfall, the lucky lottery player said that he wanted to buy a car, a house and also help his family.
