Medier Takes Mike Tyson to Court for Alleged Contract Violation

In its lawsuit, officially filed in October, alleges that the “true reason” for Tyson’s “hasty and unlawful termination” of the deal with Mediar was his fight against Jake Paul

Mike Tyson has been embroiled in a lawsuit in the aftermath of his historic fight against Jake Paul. According to the allegations, Tyson has violated its agreement with Cyprus-based media giant Medier.

Medier Says Tyson Unlawfully Ended the Deal

The deal in question had been signed in January but violated because of the clash between Tyson and Paul, Medier alleges. The media company, which is associated with the gambling operator Rabona, accused Tyson of suddenly giving up on the agreement in March, incurring an alleged EUR 1.46 million in damages.

For context, Tyson walked out of the deal in March, on the same day his game against Paul was announced. He justified his decision by claiming that Medier had likewise violated the terms of the deal.

In its lawsuit, officially filed in October, alleges that the “true reason” for Tyson’s “hasty and unlawful termination” of the deal was his deal to fight Jake Paul.

Representatives of Mike Tyson responded to the allegations, denying Medier’s claims. Instead, they insisted that the deal was terminated because the Cyprus-based company had “materially breached the terms of its license agreement” multiple times and in many ways. Because of that, Tryannic, Tyson’s company, believes that it was in its legal right to put an end to its deal with Medier, which could have possibly done reputational harm to the Tyson brand.

In line with the representatives’ statement, Tyson plans to fight Medier in court.

The Fight Was a Success

The fight between Tyson and Paull took place several weeks ago and attracted a peak of 65 million concurrent viewers worldwide and a peak of 38 million concurrent viewers in the US. The action was exclusively streamed on Netflix, as per an earlier agreement.

Despite the controversial nature of putting two fighters with such a significant age difference against one another, the match was a resounding success. According to data, it became the most heavily wagered-on combat sports event in recent history. More than that, it was a resounding success for sportsbooks, which trusted Paul to defeat Tyson, unlike the majority of fans who were united behind Iron Mike.

The match was also lucrative for both fighters. Paul and Tyson are said to have taken home $40 million and $20 million respectively.
