K.W.B. was sentenced to 140 years in prison for the brutal murders of his 49-year-old wife, and bartender L.G. (43), at the Four Aces Bar in Superior, Montana, in August 2023.
Convicted of Two Counts of Deliberate Homicide
The 49-year-old man was convicted of two counts of deliberate homicide and use of a weapon in a violent crime following a shocking attack captured on the bar’s security cameras.
The crime took place following a brief disagreement that K.W.B. had with his wife inside the cardroom and slots tavern located at 20 Mullan Rd W. The man left the bar ostensibly to smoke a cigarette.
He then retrieved a firearm from his vehicle before returning and shooting his wife in the head.
As patrons fled the scene in panic, the man then turned his weapon on the bartender, who was attempting to escape, shooting him once before turning back to shoot his wife again as she lay on the floor.
The shooter then proceeded to fire three more shots at the bartender before fleeing the scene, triggering the fire alarm.
Authorities apprehended him hours later after a flat tire forced him to stop on the highway.
Controversial Testimony
In court, the man’s testimony was controversial and inflammatory, as he claimed to have no memory of the killings, blaming his wife Jenny for the tragic events.
“At trial, the state made Jenny seem like an angel, a person with no flaws. They were wrong,” he said.
He described his spouse as a “liar and a cheater.” His remarks were met with objections from the prosecution.
K.W.B. also expressed sorrow for his actions, stating, “I too lost my best friend that night, my best friend and the love of my life.”
Several victim impact statements were read aloud during sentencing, including a heart-wrenching message from the couple’s daughter, who spoke via Zoom.
“My father is a narcissistic person,” she said, describing how the loss of her mother shattered her life and led her to drop out of college.
Jenny’s father also addressed the court, sharing his grief over the loss of his daughter, which he called his “best friend.”
“His Actions in This Matter Do Not Reflect Who He Is”
K.W.B.’s sister also tearfully spoke about the devastating impact the murders had on their family.
“It breaks my heart to see my nieces lose their mother to this tragedy,” she said. “What breaks my heart even more is the anger that has divided our family,” she added while calling her brother someone she deeply admires.
“His actions in this matter do not reflect who he is,” the woman added, choking up on the stand.
Agent Ward from the Division of Criminal Investigation testified on Friday that during recent jailhouse phone calls, K.W.B. expressed a belief that he should undergo a paternity test for his daughters.
This revelation caused several people in the courtroom to gasp in surprise.
Before his sentencing, the shooter tearfully addressed the court, apologizing for his actions, thanking his friends and family for their support, and telling his children he loved them “more than life itself.”
The man then acknowledged the gravity of his crimes, stating, “Shooting two people in a bar, with witnesses, are not actions I can claim to have no memory of. Having no memory is no excuse.”
He also expressed his frustrations with the trial’s portrayal of his wife, Jenny, accusing the state of making her “seem like an angel, someone without flaws.”
“They were wrong. Since my arrest, the discovery process has shown another side of my wife of 22 years,” he explained.
The judge, who appeared visibly moved, issued the sentence, and the man has remained in custody to await transport to the Montana State Prison.
Last week, we reported on a similarly disturbing case of a man who was wounded during the robbery of an illegal gambling establishment in Queens and passed away.
Another man was injured during the same incident but was later released from the hospital.
