IGT’s Megabucks Slot Game Brings $15.5M on Christmas Eve

Christmas is normally the time when people gather with family and relatives, but during a year when things are everything but normal, some people decide to spend Christmas Eve in casinos. One man will remember this year’s one for a long time.

Thursday night, in a tweet on the casino’s profile, the Suncoast Hotel and Casino reported a patron named Kevin won nearly $15.5 million playing one of their slot machines. Alongside a photo of the hidden winner, the Las Vegas casino which is operated by Boyd Gaming congratulated the winner of the progressive jackpot.

According to the news release the media reports on, customer Kevin hit the $15,491,103 Megabucks Progressive Jackpot at the Suncoast Casino while playing on a Megabucks slot machine, a game from the portfolio of International Game Technology (IGT), a game content provider which continues to expand its US footprint.

A Christmas to Remember

Kevin, the lucky winner whose identity the casino property protects for safety reasons, achieved the historical win by putting only $40 in the slot machine. He shared with Boyd Gaming his intention to support his business by paying it forward with the jackpot winning, the largest in Nevada for the last 8 years according to the press release.

“It was certainly a Christmas Eve to remember. We’re excited and honored we could play a part in this historic holiday jackpot at the Suncoast.”

In 2003, at the Excalibur Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas a 25-year-old man from Los Angeles managed to win at the MGM’s casino $39.7 million in one of the world-record slot machine jackpots, according to IGT’s records, only 3 years after an unnamed woman won while playing slots at the Desert Inn Resort which is now closed $34.9 million.

Lucky Kevin is not the only one coming out of the this holiday period with a significant win, and while the $250,000 won by a laid off preschool teacher from North Carolina from a scratch-off ticket, as reported by the NC Education Lottery on Tuesday, is nowhere near the multi-million jackpot winning in Nevada, still it makes for a Christmas to remember.
