Golf Canada Now Has an Official Gaming Partner through theScore Bet
As Canada prepares to pull back the curtains on its new sports betting regime, Score Media and Gaming is ready to pounce. Already an established name on the Canadian sports betting scene, the company is entering a new phase of development, becoming the exclusive Official Gaming Partner of Golf Canada. The partnership, which will take effect early next year, ultimately could give Penn National Gaming a boost in Canada, as well.
theScore Teams up with Golf Canada
According to a press release from Score Media yesterday, Score Digital Sports Ventures (Canada) Inc., better known as theScore Bet, is now the Official Gaming Partner of Golf Canada. The multi-year agreement converts theScore Bet into the first gaming partner the golf organization has ever teamed up with, and also gives the sports betting operator access to two major golf championships in Canada, the Canadian Pacific Women’s Open and the RBC Canadian Open. theScore is also the Official Betting Operator of the PGA Tour in the US and Canada.
The partnership goes into force next year, giving theScore Bet access to two high-profile golfing events, as well as Canada’s new sports betting market. The operator will create new fan engagement initiatives, exclusive members-only experiences and digital activations to take its presence to new levels in Canada. Asserts Golf Canada Chief Commercial Officer John Sibley, “We are thrilled to welcome theScore Bet as Golf Canada’s first Official Gaming Partner. theScore brand is already synonymous with sports coverage in Canada and we’re enthusiastic about the opportunity to team up to help build awareness for theScore Bet. Through Golf Canada’s entertainment properties and channels, theScore Bet will have direct access to engage with our large membership of devout Canadian sports fans.”
Perfectly-timed Partnership for theScore
The announcement of the partnership comes at a great time for theScore. Canada is putting together the final pieces of its new sports betting framework today, in anticipation of officially launching single-event sports bets tomorrow. Several provinces are already gearing up to start welcoming new operators to their jurisdictions and, although theScore’s partnership with Golf Canada doesn’t take effect until next year, it is putting itself in a great position to capitalize on the expanded market.
theScore isn’t the only one that will benefit from the partnership. Penn National Gaming, which also has its hands in Barstool Sports in the US, announced at the beginning of this month that it was working on a deal to purchase theScore for $2 billion in cash and stock. The two entities are still finalizing the agreement, but there haven’t been any reported issues. Provided no fourth-quarter hurdles appear out of nowhere, Penn National and theScore hope to consummate the deal sometime early next year.
