Canada’s Lotto Max Introduces Many New Prizes, Including an Increased Jackpot

To support these expanded prize opportunities, each ticket will now include four sets of seven numbers instead of three, giving players an increased chance of winning

One of Canada’s national lottery games, Lotto Max, will increase its maximum jackpot to CAD 90 million, up from CAD 80 million ($65 million from $58 million previously). But that’s not all, as the lottery will also introduce many more changes, designed to expand how and how often players can win.

Lotto Max Introduces New Prizes

Beginning Tuesday, April 14, 2026, the game will introduce its most significant update in years, featuring bigger jackpots, more built-in prizes, and better overall odds of winning. A key addition is a new feature that ties multiple CAD 100,000 prizes (about $72,000) directly to the jackpot amount in every draw. For example, a CAD 10 million jackpot ($7.27 million) will include 10 extra CAD 100,000 prizes. As the jackpot increases, so does the number of these prizes. This means it could reach up to 90 additional CAD 100,000 prizes when the jackpot hits CAD 90 million.

To support these expanded prize opportunities, each ticket will now include four sets of seven numbers instead of three. In practical terms, this gives every player more combinations, which increases the chances of matching the draw. While the odds of winning any prize improve overall, the odds of hitting the jackpot remain challenging, as expected for a lottery of this scale. The new mechanics, Lotto Max argues, are made in a way that allows players to win more frequently, while also maintaining the core of the game.

How Will the New Mechanics Work?

According to a statement from the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG), a provincial operator that sells tickets for the lottery, the overall odds of winning any prize have improved from about 1 in 7 to roughly 1 in 5.8. Meanwhile, the odds of winning the main jackpot shift slightly, from approximately 1 in 33,294,800 per play to about 1 in 33,446,140 per play.

However, all of these changes also require a bigger budget. This is why the cost of a Lotto Max ticket will increase from CAD 5 to CAD 6, now offering four selections of seven numbers (from 1 to 52). This marks the first price increase in 17 years.

In other news about Lotto Max, just last week, a player from Ontario won a staggering CAD 55 million jackpot (almost $40 million) after buying a ticket in the United Counties of Prescott and Russell.
